This project has two aspects;
Where and how does an industrial designer make models and prototypes when education is completely online? As happened when the university programs changed delivery to full online in March 2020.
In NOVEMBER 2019, teaching of 3 courses in Year 1 of Industrial Design at RMIT University (in the Project My First Six Months) was reimagined. It was reimagined to implement a principle that "the studio is a place for making". The reading, writing and talking can happen in the history and theory courses and classes.
If studio is a place of making, can it happen exclusively in a makerspace?
Also: Remember to BYB (be your best)!
The teaching program for 3 courses in first year is visualized as a glass box documenting course, planning teaching practices and student voices.
“Man who stand on hill with mouth open will wait long time for roast duck to drop in.” (Confucius) - here is a lovely blog post discussing that quote.

If you want something you are going to have to put in some effort to get it, it will not arrive to you exactly as you want it.
This is also a Resource Site for the Teaching Project "My First Six Months". For the 8 tutors of these courses to share a common platform of pedagogical practices. Practices that privilege the learner both at the centre and as a partner.
The Project comprises three courses and a program of public events: Two Studios, a Materials+Processes course and an Open Studio. There are 6 teachers (including me), 120-150 students, and the tutorials run morning. Every Wed (UCD), Thu (D4S), Fri (IDE) for 12 weeks. The Google-Slides documents follow a format of a traditional hard copy handout describing the studio capacity development goals and the project propositions. Since this is an archive I have posted previous versions of the Slides documents - treating this site as a repository of documents, to maintain a record of the process.
"D4S" is the name for a project that focuses upon Developing Capacity in "Design for Sustainability". This is a 10 Slide presentation laying out the concept of Blended Learning for the student journey. The content is from a training document - for the teaching team - so refer to the Canvas Site for current information.
"IDE" is the name for a project that focuses upon Developing Capacity in "Industrial Design Engineering". This is a 11 Slide presentation laying out the concept of Blended Learning for the student journey. The content is from a training document - for the teaching team - so refer to the Canvas Site for current information.
"UCD" is the name for a project that focuses upon Developing Capacity in "User Centered Design". This is a 9 Slide presentation laying out the concept of Blended Learning for the student journey. The content is from a training document - for the teaching team - so refer to the Canvas Site for current information.
