This is pretty much how dark is the book. Obviously us dark romance girlies like it Dark and gonna give nightmares but if you are new to Dark Romance definitely start with an introducion novel. Just tap your toe into the water first because you will question your mental wellbeing. Triggers aren't to be ignored and know your limits. In all seriousness, I took this recommendation through Kristen McAtee an Instagram Influencer/ Podcaster/ Youtuber I follow on social media who read hers in a single night. I saw it was by Colleen Hoover and ran out of the store (obviously after paying) without even glancing at the blurb of the novel. However... I probably should have seen as though I was opening the book expecting to see Romance and a novel similar to "It Ends With Us" in which I had just closed the final page days earlier. I was however greeted within the first sentence by the gruesome death of our first character,

This book is the ultimate novel of Sex, Money and Revenge which covers lots of dark themes within the novel as well as implements small sections of Romance, including the reflection of a toxic yet sexy relationship with detailed raunchy sex scenes that will have you fanning yourself and the "will they won't they" complex that will build on sexual tension. This is definitely a novel that will make you think you know what's happening until the plot twists and suddenly you don't.

I don't even know how to begin this review, I am honestly wordless. But what else did I expect from a book with a list of Trigger Warnings that is almost the length of a chapter in this book?

I have never read of a character with absolutely no fucks and no filter than Zade Meadows... some of the shit this man says has me gawking at the absolute zero fucks this man gives. This man is my worst nightmare to wake up to, and people who adore him have me stunned.

The Question of consent makes up the majority of the book, sometimes it's suggested that it is indeed a consensual encounter yet other parts of the book (aka the majority of the Book) emphasise the sexual assault present in the book including Zade himself admitting to rape. But the Book tok girlies do drool over the guy.

This is my formal apology for my previous review in which I slandered the girls with a crush on Zade Meadows... I was wrong, and I see that now. Cause this man holds qualities that can only be described as Daddy Behaviour.

At the beginning of the book, H.D. Carlton said that the book is not for people wanting a reunion and immediately I assumed Addeline dies in this book, obviously, I was wrong however, death may have been a sweeter relief for the poor main character. I loved this plot and story arc discussing topics that most authors are too afraid to talk about such as the Sex Trafficking Industry, Skin Trade and PTSD. This is obviously where a lot of viewers draw the line and cannot read but these are real issues in our real world that continue to be ignored.

To say I was disturbed by what happened is an understatement. The scenes in the book are not outside the realm of possibility and that thought alone scares me, especially the psychological warfare occurring among the attendees of the house.

I love this book and recommend it to anyone willing to read through the disturbing details. Those who can't bare the plot, don't blame the author. Dark Romance just isn't for everyone but I love H.D Carlton's writing style and the inner dialogue of the characters is the best I have read ever!

But be warned as I now have a fear of high heels, clenching at the sight and sound.

READ SATAN'S AFFAIR BEFORE HAUNTING ADELINE!

I regret not reading Satan's Affair first as I would now give my SOUL to fully experience the novel's plot twist. As soon as I read the first page I knew the plot twist and was so upset by not being able to experience it.

If you think the Cat and Mouse series is gruesome this book will give you a shock, cause the cute little clown girl really knows how to torture people she doesn't like. I was gagging about certain details of the book, and unfortunately, H.D. Carlton is the queen of thriller so her writing skills made it so visual, That I felt like I could see their deaths happening in front of me.

This book made me reconsider my rating system for spice in books, cause I definitely learnt something new however I am also highly disturbed. The spice circles around sharing and orgys/g*ngbangs which I wish I was shocked but I've read Hunting Adeline. It was a lot and at times I was slightly confused about what was going on. But worst of all the bleeding kink was a bit intense for me so I struggled a bit reading it.

The start of this book can be described in one word... "Cheesy", I almost gave up before it even began, but holy LORD ol' mighty I'm so glad I didn't. When I say that I read Dark Romance for the plot this is what I meant! Once this book got started I was stuck just as much as the Lords are! I looked forward to any moment I could take to read this book!

This book was full of plot twists that link EVERYTHING together and trust me... you never know what is about to happen. Sometimes it was a little eyeroll worthy but not gonna lie, it was still juicy!

One thing I do need to say is that I DON'T NEED TO KNOW EVERY SONG THAT IS PLAYING AND WHO SINGS IT. It is giving old MTV vibes when the ribbon comes across the bottom of the screen to tell you the song's name though nobody actually cares.

Now before I talk about the dirty spice, let's talk about Ryat. I tried to like him, I really did however, he just ain't hitting it for me. This man asked her for her boundaries just so he could break her ONLY BOUNDARY! This man just gives me weird vibes and I don't understand why. Like when Zade Meadows stalked it was hot, but when Ryat does it... kinda freaks me out a little.

The spice in this is heavily around non/dub-con and a dominating relationship. Personally not my preference however the spice did in fact SPICE. Like the scenes in this were raunchy! I don't think I can support everything they did but go them I guess.

tI think to summarise, it is a smutty book with a dark romance plot.

Never eating Bacon or Ham again

My all time favourite Novella - short, to the point and sweet (in a dark romance way).

We finally find out the mystery of not only who Molly is but what happened to Molly. And if you are like me and for the life of you could not remeber who Molly is. In Hunting Adeline (Must Read First!), Adeline found a Journal in Francesca's House under the floor boards of a past "resident"... this diary was written by Molly, however we never found out if Molly escaped and found Layla.

Now controversial opinion to come but... Cage just ain't as good as Zade. I'm SORRY!

I'm sorry but Zaddy's response post skin trade was to take Adeline for Ice Cream, Refuse for his gun to point in her direction and work through her trauma with her. Cage threatened to break Molly's bones because she was scared.

Cage gave me Shein-Zade vibes, like at the start I LOVED Cage, however the more he talked the more I realised his lines where just re-edited Zade lines but inferior.

Little Mouse -> Little Ghost (not as much of a ring to it)

If you read to the end there is a more indepth crossover chapter (a reward from H.D Carlton) and though it didn't need to be in the book it was appreciated. It was hard though as some of the dialogue does not match the characters in past books but it was sweet non-of the less.

All in all, it's a short read- easily possible in one sitting and super enjoyable for you dark romance girlies.

Because this is the best Dark Rom-Com Ever!

What do you get when two serial killers fall in love?

Sounds like the start of a bad joke right? But Brynne Weaver paints the perfect book around this concept including morally grey murder and making a game out of it.

Dark Rom-Com is my new favourite genre as it touches on dark topics while making it surprisingly funny including accidental cannablism. (yes you heard me) which made me laugh out loud.

The book's characters are indeed morally grey but so loveable! I swooned so hard and wanted their romance to happen so badly!

The pacing was a bit choppy for my liking (though I understood why), I'm just not a person that enjoys "6 months later". But the way the book was written was genius indeed even though some plots were in fat predictable I still enjoyed every second of it.

Who knew I'd fall in love with a serial killer called the Butcher? But the story was surprisingly sweet with plenty of spice involved. I found him super attractive with his caring nature and his transparency with her. The fact he fell on page one shows the man he is and I love it!

I recommend the audiobook... who knew an Irish accent could be so sexy?

I give it a glittery thumbs up! Forced Proximity at its best.

Who knew Lark had such a dark side? And I mean super dark side- I mean we can all admit she is creative in her work.

I'm still not the biggest fan of Lachlan (I know, I'm Sorry), he just gives off too much of a Grinch for me at times. But makes the best grump and sunshine troop that ways alongside forced proximity,

I did enjoy the parts of this book that addressed mental health as well as the secrecy of being a murderer. But it just didn't give the same satisfaction as Butcher and Blackbird.

I did enjoy the reuniting of the characters later on being the reason they hated each other, the shriek of laughter made me giggle.

I enjoyed the book throughout and would read it again as it was a feel-good book with a dark plot. I did laugh at the small comments and plots.

Recommend this series for beginner dark romancers to dip your toe into the pool.

Um... Enzo needs to be fed to sharks ASAP

I heard this was dark... and at first, I didn't see it... then I did.

I think Enzo takes the cake for my least likable fictional character ever, like does it hurt to not be a d*ck?

This book was good as it brought the hate sex to a whole new level (even though it was r*pe). But we see a romance start nicely, go sour then rebuild itself which was somewhat sweet though I can't see what she sees in him. I mean yeah he is Italian and muscular but he has the personality of poison.

I loved the vibe of the book being Australian Island with a dark vibe. While travelling Australia I found so many places giving this vibe including that Bikini Lifestyle.

The couple gave off sibling-arguing vibes - proving me wrong. Like you hurt me so I have to hurt you worse.

The plot had my eyes stuck on the book. I was so obsessed with how the book came together like what the fuck just happened?!

A harmless(ish) date night that leads to covering up a murder

The most perfect book ever.

Josh needs to marry me ASAP because he was such a cutie patootie!! Like he re-enacts her kinks, cooks for her, he calls her kitten his son and watches her 24/7.... yep husband material.

The story is done so well with pacing and plotline. Navessa you are a f*cking genius and I love it!

The book had me laughing and swooning with a tad bit of cringy but thats why Josh is such a cutie!

Spice, Spice, Spice with a bit of darkness is the best explanation. The romance was more prominent than anything else as its super cute without discomfort. Best beginner dark romance book ever. I loved all the characters and the progression of the book especially as the reveal didn't centre around the "masked man's" identity but rather other plot points.

It is modernised and relates to younger audiences.

Sorry but these horse-boys are all as disgusting as each other in their childish behaviour. I know they waited for her to be of age... but the things they said about a CHILD (and did to CHILDREN!) disgusting.

Sooooo that happened.

Look I did enjoy the book to some degree, and I'm not going to sit here and tear down the author cause I see what they were doing. It was a good read and had the paranormal it promised but it also came with possibly a little too much sex.

Will I be reading the next one? Will it be soon... maybe not. I would possibly only for the strong female lead.

It's a small town gone wrong kinda novel and I did appreciate the bending of sexuality in a straight relationship especially turning the mirror back onto society and questioning whether maybe we as humans are the weird ones for having homophobics.

All in all, this is a good read if you want to go down the paranormal route but for me, I overthink and had too many unanswered questions that drove me mad.
