Our Program
Our Program
We offer rising high school juniors and seniors with a two-day guidance program, 1:1 year-long mentorship, connections within our mentor network, a deep dive into college living, and more!
The main guidance portion of our program takes place over the span of a weekend. Students will meet with mentors Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with breaks, including 1-hour for lunch) as they are guided through a variety of different topics about their upcoming college journey.
Topics include: college exploration, financial aid, scholarships, writing, ACT/SAT, resumes, and interviews.
Students will listen to lectures, participate in activities, and engage in Q&A sessions, all of which are led by our team of mentors.
Any content presented will be shared. Recordings can be provided at the request of the student.
While the majority of our programming takes place during the guidance program, students are encouraged to take advantage of the other features of our program. These include:
1:1 Mentorship
Students will be paired with 1-2 mentors based on their academic interests and shared experiences. The goal of our mentorship pairings is for our students and mentors to bond based on their similarities, and thus establish a good support system for the student as they begin their college journey.
Throughout the year, students will meet with their mentor(s) to receive direct mentoring and aid as they navigate everything from financial aid and essay writing to admissions interviews and decision letters.
The Mentor Network
In addition to their main mentors, students can still reach out to any other mentor, Our mentors have a variety of skills and backgrounds, which we encourage students to take advantage of. However, we also know that we may not be able to answer every question fully, so we want you to talk with someone who can.
Do you want to talk to someone who currently attends your dream school? Do you want to meet with a student who received the scholarship you're currently applying for?
Let our mentors connect you with someone who can answer any lingering questions you might have!
College Living Q&A
A favorite of our MCJA alumni, the College Living Q&A session gives our students the opportunity to ask any lingering questions about what college will be like before they begin their college educations. Similarly to the weekend guidance program, this Q&A session is mentor-led; however, it is a more relaxed environment, allowing students to feel safe asking any questions they may not feel comfortable asking older adults.
Topics include: travel, transitioning into college, homesickness, culture shock, housing and food, academics, finance, social life, and health.
Note: Unlike the weekend guidance program, no recordings will be provided. This is because some of our mentors will be sharing personal anecdotes that we would like to keep within the program. We hope students can make time to attend the session, and we aim to schedule with the students in mind!
The College Living Q&A also functions as a celebration for our students' many accomplishments. We hope that they feel prepared to navigate higher education and excited to start the next chapter of their lives. Students are also reminded that they will always have access to features such as the mentor network at any point during their college and professional careers.
