REgistration contributions

The 1st Midwest Workshop of Women in Experimental Biology (MWWEB 2022) will take place on August 12th, 2022. To register for the conference, you must complete the registration form available HERE. The registration form includes contributions to the two main themes of the workshop:

  • Women in Experimental Biology

  • Statistics for Experimental Biology

To complete the registration, you will be required to answer the following questions:

  • What are your thoughts about the participation of women and under-represented groups in experimental biology?

  • What are your thoughts on the need for/current gaps/benefits of modern statistical methods in experimental biology?

Possible answers to these two questions may involve your ideas on the following topics:

  • Women in Experimental Biology

    • Ways to promote the participation and retention of women and under-represented groups in experimental biology

    • Examples of barriers to the participation of women and under-represented groups in experimental biology

    • Examples of ways in which experimental biology is enriched by the contributions of women and under-represented groups

    • Examples of ways that COVID has/has not impacted the participation of women and under-represented groups in experimental biology

    • Solutions/Hopes for the future

    • Personal goals for encouraging participation of women and under-represented groups in experimental biology

  • Statistics for Experimental Biology

    • Examples of quantitative methods from which experimental biology would benefit

    • Examples of biological questions that cannot be answered with your existing quantitative/statistical toolset

    • Examples of statistical methods that you have encountered in other contexts, but believe may be useful for experimental biology/biological questions of interest to your research

    • Examples of the need of statistical methodology in your own research or teaching

    • How would you adjust a typical curriculum in experimental biology to benefit from statistical training in modern methodology (e.g. machine learning)?

In your answers, feel free to share ideas on topics that you feel fit the two themes of the workshop, even if not strictly answering the questions in the form.
