Mandy Wilkinson-Thompson

Mandy qualified as a physiotherapist in 1992. She enjoyed and participated in all forms of water sport growing up and during her studies she was drawn to all aspects that involved water. She was privileged to start her first job at Princess Alice Orthopaedic Hospital which boasted two aquatic pools. She became involved with the undergraduate students, giving them aquatic training during their blocks at Princess Alice. She opened her first aquatic physiotherapy practice in Wynberg in 1995 and then moved to Pinelands in 1999. She was involved in setting up the first Hydrotherapy Interest Group in 1999 and began presenting courses on aquatic physiotherapy. She was also one of the founding members of the Aquatic Physiotherapy Group of the SASP and chaired the group for a few years. Over the past 25 years, Mandy has continued to practice in Pinelands and has attended numerous aquatic courses including completing her AQPG APDL 2 in 2012, designing 14 courses and presenting almost 50 courses to physiotherapists, biokineticists and swim instructors. She has also given numerous talks on aquatic physiotherapy to various organisations and institutions; and written several articles.
Mandy enjoys the freedom the water gives her clients to rehabilitate in an environment which is warm & comforting; takes a load off the body & mind; and is both relaxing and challenging at the same time.
Outside of work, Mandy is very involved with her family, friends and surf lifesaving. Training, competing and judging on a provincial and national level. When not at the practice in the water, Mandy is usually on the beach and in the sea.
