An outstanding teacher should be an inspiring instructor who is concerned about students' needs, an active scholar who is respected by discipline peers, and an efficient organised professional who is accessible to students and colleagues.
Seymour Ericksen, The essence of Good Teaching
I have had the privilege of working as a language education researcher and instructor in various countries, gaining valuable experience along the way. I joined the Department of French and European Studies at the University of Cyprus in January 2025 as a Lecturer in Spanish Language and Culture.
Previously, I was a Spanish language instructor at the Language Centre of Cyprus University of Technology (2016 - 2025). In addition to my teaching experience, I also supervised postgraduate research. Specifically, I supervised Master's theses for the MSc in Interaction Design, a joint program between Cyprus University of Technology and Tallinn University. These theses focused on Second Language Acquisition and Education, further strengthening my expertise in the field.
Beyond my academic roles in Cyprus, I have also gained international experience. In South Korea (2011 - 2015), I served as an Assistant Professor at the Spanish Department of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. My responsibilities included teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced Spanish language courses, as well as specific linguistic classes in the Graduate School, such as Spanish Pragmatics and The Study of Tense and Aspect. Additionally, I volunteered as a DELE examiner and designed and delivered extra courses to support students in their DELE examination preparations. I also supervised graduate students from Spanish partner universities who were completing their teaching practicums at Hankuk University's Spanish Department.
During my stay in the UK (2010), I worked as a language tutor at Bromley Adult Education College. There, I gained exposure to various teaching methodologies commonly employed in the Anglo-Saxon world, further enhancing my teaching skills. Likewise, in Spain, at the Universidad Complutense (2007) I taught Spanish spring-summer intensive courses. This opportunity provided me with experience in teaching groups of students with varied native languages and diverse backgrounds.
