Murrieta Valley Unified School District
Career Technical Education: Public Service Pathway
Murrieta Valley High School
Our Fire Science Technology and Emergency Medical Technician Programs feature both didactic and pedagogy teaching methods. Each course offers our students a realistic approach to a career in Fire and/or EMS.
Para-Program Goals
The Public Service Pathway aligns with the mission statements of Murrieta Valley Unified School District and Murrieta Valley High School. Our programs offers the opportunity to apply a comprehensive learning environment where students will learn the importance of character development such as accountability, respect, collaboration and leadership. Our program focuses on the preparation of our students for success in college, career, and life while establishing meaningful partnerships with families and communities to support student achievement in and out of school.
Program Goals
Our 1-year goal is to continue our program growth thru student enrollment. We currently have 235 students enrolled. We would like to grow that to over 250 students.
Our 3-year goal would be to add a pathway curriculum, Emergency Medical Dispatcher
Our long-term goal would be to add a Saturday Program to allow other students within the district that are interested in Fire and EMS to attend a Saturday class and attain the same desired outcome that our students receive during our midweek program.
We have Two Full Time Fire Service Industry Instructors and Three Fire Service Industry Standard Teacher Assistants to assist in the student/instructor ration. 30/1
Our Program is well highlighted on Instagram along with tags with local cooperators and schools.
Students are given step by step instructions to create their FEMA Student ID Numbers, Register for College, and Register for CATEMA.
Instructors and Students promote the Pathway by connecting to Middle Schools, Community Outreach, Social Media, and Pathway Showcases.
Fire Science Technology Program has a Flyer that is used to give a snapshot of that our program offers.
Pathway Instructors meet with our school counseling team once a month during our Professional Learning Trainings on Wednesday to stay up to date with new industry needs or changes to the pathway as needed to assess students needs.
Our program collaborates with our local Middle Schools and Murrieta Fire and Rescue. Our counseling department is instrumental in placing incoming freshmen and transfer students into the Fire Science Pathway.
We offer our collaborators with Murrieta Fire and Rescue, Cal Fire Riverside, United State Forest Service, Riverside County Fire Department, Capstone Fire Management Inc. to sit on our Advisory Committee Board.
Fire Science Technology Program Director and Program Clinical Coordinator handles all academic issues and schedules clinical internship, and schedules all Fieldtrip/Guest Speakers with numerous agencies.
