MUTBI is an initiative of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence, and is supported by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Government of India, to provide incubation services to students, faculty members, alumni and outsiders. MUTBI encourages people to start their own venture, nurture entrepreneurship skills, create self-employment, product development and manufacturing in line with the social objectives of Government of India. MUTBI is operational since 2010 and it focuses on thrust areas like Information Technology, Healthcare, Agritech, Renewable Energy and MEMS/Nanotechnology. MUTBI provides pre-incubation, incubation, seed support, NIDHI-EIR fellowship, NIDHI-PRAYAS grant, and MAHE extends its laboratory facilities to startups. Various activities/programs conducted by MUTBI are supported by NSTEDB, Venture Center Pune, SINE Mumbai, MSME, EDII Ahmedabad and MAHE.
A virtual meet on ‘Promoting Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Coastal Karnataka’ was held on 12th February 2021 through Webex platform. This meet was jointly organised by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Mangalore University, NITK Surathkal, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Yenepoya University, Srinivas University, CII Mangalore Chapter, and IKP. The program was supported by National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Biotechnology Industry Assistance Council (BIRAC), Department of Bitechnology, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Ayog of Govt. of India and Dept of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka and Indian STEP & Business Incubator Association (ISBA). Vice Chancellors of the regional Universities, Director-NITK, Chairman-CII Mangalore Chapter, representatives from various depts. of Central & State Governments, President-ISBA, Co-founders of leading companies of the region and CEOs of Incubators of the region were the panelists. Dr. T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education Services Pvt. Ltd. delivered the keynote address. The broad objectives of the virtual meet were strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the regional, Industry-Institute Interaction/Networking at the regional level, organising Annual Entrepreneurship/Tech Summits, communication between stakeholders and to the Society about Innovation & Entrepreneurship developments.
MUTBI in association with Manipal Institute of Technology , Manipal has organized two weeks FDP on Entrepreneurship from 01 – 13 March 2021 through virtual mode. The program was sponsored by DST, Govt. of India. The main objective of the program was to equip the faculty members with knowledge and requisite skills for initiating entrepreneurship development related activities in their respective institutions. A total of 19 faculty members from Engineering/ Management/ Health Professions/ Incubator participated in the program. 33 experts drawn from TAPMI, various institutes of MAHE , IIT’s and Industry conducted various sessions.
Manipal Universal Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) organized a webinar on ‘Idea to MVP: Tools for the Modern Entrepreneur’ at the online platform of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), on 22 May 2021. The webinar covered topics on MVP, organization development, domestic & global market and funding. Participants interacted through various questions on Intellectual Property, team building, impact of covid etc. Ms. Christina Sarelakos, Product Manager, Google, USA, Ms. Shruti Venkatesh, Engieering Manager, Capsule, USA, and Mr. Aravind Bharadwaj, Principal at Innovation Endeavors, USA were the resource persons. Faculty, students, research scholars of various institutions of MAHE, entrepreneurial aspirants of neighboring institutes, founders of startups, NIDHI-EIR fellows of MUTBI attended the program.

National Technology Day is celebrated every year on May 11 to highlight the achievements of engineers and scientists in the field of technology and science. The theme for this year was “Science & Technology for sustainable future”. Mr. C N Raghupathi, Senior Vice President & Head, India Business, Infosys delivered the keynote address on Opportunities in Technology Development. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Vankatesh, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) presided over the program. Dr. Y Shrihari Upadhyaya, CEO, MUTBI moderated the program.

Manipal Universal Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) in association with Manipal-Govt. of Karnataka Bioincubator, Atal Incubation Center(AIC)-MUJ and AIC-SMU TBI, Manipal Education and Medical Group with MAHE, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), and Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ) organized In conversation with Co-founders of PharmEasy on the occasion of World Entrepreneurs’ Day (WED) on 20 August 2021. WED is celebrated every year on 21 August with the objective to create awareness about Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership. PharmEasy is an online Pharmacy tech start started in 2015 and recently entered the club of Unicorns. All 5 co-founders of PharmEasy i.e., Mr. Siddharth Shah, Mr. Harsh Parekh, Mr. Dharmil Sheth, Mr. Dhawal Shah and Mr. Hardik Dedhia were present in the panel. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) delivered the inaugural address. Dr. Raviraja N S, Director-Corporate Relations, MAHE moderated the session.

Prof. Rao, having 475 publications, 49 patents and co-founder of 2 deep tech startups, is known for Translational research, creating impact on Society and driving Innovation & Entrepreneurship ecosystem at IIT Delhi. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE inaugurated the program. Dr. Ashok Rao, Associate Director (R&C), MIT Manipal moderated the program.

MUTBI is selected as DST's PRAYAS Center under SINE Mumbai. DST-National initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovation(NIDHI) - PRomoting and Accelerating Young and ASpiring technology entrepreneurs (PRAYAS) is specifically to support young innovators turn their ideas into PoC. The Program aims at providing prototype funding to convert idea into prototype to young and aspiring innovators. The maximum funding support to an innovator/startup will be upto 10 lakhs.
As MUTBI has successfully executed the NIDHI-EIR Call-3, it has been selected for Call-4. NIDHI's Entrepreneurs-in-Residence(EIR) Programme is one of the programs introduced under NIDHI to inspire the best talents to be entrepreneurs, to minimise the risk involved in pursuing start- ups, and to partially set off their opportunity costs of high paying jobs. The NIDHI-EIR programme provides tremendous opportunities for innovative entrepreneurs to expand their networks and get critical feedback on their ventures in order to promote their entrepreneurial career goals and aspirations.
Ekam Rehab Tech Private Limited’s innovation “The BIRAC funded Affordable Smart Walker for Cerebral Palsy children” presented in the 4th Asia Oceanian Congress of Neuro Rehabilitation- World federation of Neurorehabilitation 2021 and adjudged one among top ten winners and won a cash award of 100 USD on 8 Aug 2021.
Innovation titled “Design and development of simple mobility device for children with developmental delay” presented at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Healthcare and Technical Research (ICHTR) 2021 organized by MAHE Students Research Forum under the aegis of Directorate of Research, MAHE, Manipal from November 11 to 13, 2021. has been awarded the Best paper award .
Research titled “Analysis of Crawling facilitation in a child with developmental delay: a case study” presented at the 10th International conference (NEPTACON2021) organized by Nepal Physiotherapy Association on 19 and 20 November 2021. has been awarded the best paper award
A Predictive Model for Intracerebral Hemorrhage(ICH) outcome using Machine Learning Techniques called ‘ICH Outcome Predictor’ was launched by Dr. H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Dr. Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE, Dr. Sharath Rao, Dean, KMC Manipal, Cdr.(Dr) Anil Rana, Director, MIT, Manipal and Dr.Somashekhara Bhat, Joint Director, MIT, Manipal.
The specialized software, “ICH outcome predictor”, was jointly developed by Kumudha Health Tech Private Limited, a spinoff of MAHE & incubated in MUTBI and the Department of Neurosurgery, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, MAHE.
The ICH predictive model was developed using Machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to predict mortality and morbidity in Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage. It enables doctors to take data driven decisions that will improve quality of life in this severely disabling disease .The machine learning model uses a large dataset of patients with intracranial hemorrhage from the in-house ICH register maintained by the Department of Neurosurgery, Kasturba Medical College. The data set having more than 1,00,000 records was analyzed using intelligent machine learning algorithms to pick 17 attributes which impact outcome. These attributes were then processed with feedback from Neurosurgeons at KMC Manipal. This innovative product is an outcome of collaborative work of the Department of Neurosurgery and Kumudha Health Tech Pvt. Ltd.

Successfully filed a US Design Patent.
Built a great partnership with H.T. Parikh Foundation (HDFC Group), who have placed an order for 100 units of Emvolio portable refrigerator through their CSR. A part of this order has already been fulfilled and they will be serving Assam and Manipur in COVID-19 Vaccinations.
Hitach ABB Power Grids has also placed an order for 50 units of Emvolio for COVID-19 vaccination in underserved areas of Bangalore, Mysore and Chennai.
Hon. Finance Minister of Govt. of India Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the product Emvolio for urban vaccination at an event in Bangalore in June 2021.
Participated and went to the last round of Toycathon and have filed new patent on “OCUDA-Ocular Digital Adoptor, Smartphone Assisted Device and System for Eye Imaging.
