Social Media Training
Part of my job was to receive a training session on how to use different social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter for marketing purposes. The instructor was an experienced digital marketeer who works at Facebook.
First, he asked us to introduce ourselves and to state a specific outcome that we want to gain from the session. We discovered later on that the instructor would relate different examples to our needs and desired outcomes. After each step, he always asked us to reflect and make connections with our previous background and experiences. At the session concluded, he sent us study notes for all the concepts via email, and asked us to revise them twice a week and reflect on our current practice.
Key aspects of adult learning theories: the role of self - the trainer used intrinsic motivation as he asked about our goals for attending the training. The role of experience: the trainer realized that we came with our own experiences and he used it to build on it.
YouTube Video About AI:
I follow a YouTube channel about science communication in Arabic. They use bite-sized lessons to speak about complex topics. One video I saw was about artificial intelligence. It started by how a machine defeated one of the best chess players by learning and improving on every turn. The presenter then told us about the importance of the topic and how it could affect our future. Finally, the presenter asked us about how we can use programming to leverage the power of artificial intelligence.
The video sparked my interest in the topic and I became interested in it ever since. It used the need to know, self-concept, and the experience concept.
One principle that can improve my learning experiences:
I believe that intrinsic motivation concept is the best way to get the learners' attention. By sparking interest in the topic and relating it to the unique goals and needs of each individual, a learner can be consistent in his own learning. Even when the learner is about to give up, using intrinsic motivation can help him get back on track.
