As of April 3rd, the CDC recommends that all individuals wear cloth masks in public settings. To help with this, we are also making masks, distributing them to community members, and informing the public about the importance of wearing masks in addition to other public health precautions.

COVID-19 is especially dangerous for immunocompromised people, making it unsafe for them to visit high-traffic areas such as grocery stores. We are helping out by delivering groceries to them so they can minimize contact with other individuals. We are providing this service voluntarily with no delivery fee; just the price of groceries.
During our current COVID-19 pandemic, food banks have seen a 30% increase in activity but fewer people are dropping off donations. To make donation as easy as possible, we are picking up food and essential items from your door! We will be sending volunteers out to several areas in Savannah to collect donations and take them to the food bank. Local food banks and donation centers are in need of non-perishables such as peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, soups, canned fruit, and rice as well as household essentials such as toothbrushes, soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other personal items.
The American Red Cross is facing shortages of all blood products and is looking for not only donors but volunteers to help run drives. We are helping out by performing temperature checks and registering donors at drives around the Savannah area. Volunteering only requires a one-time commitment of 6-8 hours.
The Coastal Health District Department of Public Health is performing drive-through testing as well as conducting patient tracings for the Savannah community. Additionally, on 4/17, they established a new call center to screen individuals for COVID-19 testing. We are helping in each of these areas as well as helping set up patient tracing protocols for other Georgia Health Districts' Departments of Public Health.
We are an informal group of medical students hoping to provide assistance to those in need during this pandemic. This is an offer to help, not an enrollment in a program offered by or endorsed by an employers or academic institution. Please follow guidance and precautions regarding personal exposure. Refrain from participating and adhere to public health precautions if you or any household contacts are symptomatic or fall in an at-risk population. We do not assume liability for any volunteers or frontline workers, and participants must use their own discretion to evaluate risk. These events are volunteer/service-learning opportunity only and are not for curricular credit within the School of Medicine.
