Wondrous First Nations Australian Food
G’day! I hope you’ve had some Australian bush cuisine, oh so unique deliciousness!🦘 Can I tempt you to help me create the one place to come to for the joy of Australian bush tucker? It will be mouth watering, with “oh, wow” sights, videos, tons of books, academic journal articles, producer information, and links galore🦎
Why me? Oh, I grew up in country Australia (in Narromine, and I went to school with “ooh, ahh, Glenn McGrath”) in the proper bush. Great times yabbying, fishing, hunting, sleeping by the redgum fire, and eating bush tucker. I’ve travelled Australia (more to do!), talked to heaps of First Nations mob, and yarned about the specialness of bush tucker.
The video, below, is from my trip into the Watagans National Park in December, 2025 on a part of the Great North Walk. A couple of hours in, and in a deep gully, this beautiful freshwater crayfish (Euastacus spinifer) reared its claws. Oh, I am mesmerised at its beauty! Now way was I going to catch it, but I said “you are so beautiful!” and left to continue my trek.
So that’s the kind of personal video you’ll get from me. I’ll keep it personal too, drawing on my lived experience so that your experiences will be richer as you travel through the bush. See you on the Substack soon!
