Lyrics:
My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring!
WES 4th graders
Piper, Anna, Emma, and Emily
What the lyrics mean:
America, it is you,
Sweet land of freedom,
it is you I am singing about;
a place people fought for,
a place people are proud of,
All across the country,
let’s celebrate freedom!
4th grade students listened to and played along with the famous song 'In the Hall of the Mountain King" with rhythm sticks.
Then we read the book that tells the story of the song!

3rd graders and multi 3/4 got to play along using rhythm sticks with the 'Surprise Symphony'.
Then we moved around the music room to the song with our feet matching the rhythm pattern.
part 1: tiptoe tiptoe tiptoe step
part 2: tiptoe tiptoe tiptoe step
part 3: tiptoe tiptoe tiptoe step
part 4: tiptoe tiptoe step step
(don't forget, the 2nd time through the pattern there is the surprise STOMP!)

2nd grade started the year off reviewing our 'high' and 'low' notes and using them to make the doorbell sound in the book "The Doorbell Rang'. You can read the book here and add in your own doorbell sounds!
In first grade and multi 1/2, we read the book 'I Got 2 Dogs' by John Lithgow and learned how to play the singing game 'Doggie Doggie'.
"Doggie doggie wheres your bone?
Someone took it from your home."
Doggie: "Who stole my bone?"
Student with the bone: "I stole your bone!"

In our first music classes, kindergarteners listened to the song 'Kangaroos' and got to explore the music room by hopping around like a kangaroo! We also read the book 'Pouch' by David Ezra Stein.
