Music at WES - Music Shares

All students at WES take part in a yearly music share. Each group shares on the Karen Taylor Stage here at WES - friends and family members are invited to come!

These shares are a chance to share what we are learning in music class! It will include songs and other activities we have done in music class this year. It will also include explanations of the musical skills and concepts the students have learned! The goal is to offer a sampling of activities students have done throughout the year that reflects the curriculum and my teaching approach as a whole. This type of event is sometimes nicknamed an ‘informance’ because it is informal and informative!

Attire: no heeled shoes, otherwise no special attire needed

Morning shares (K-3): take place in the cafeteria, the main doors will open at 8:50am

Evening share (4th grade/band) : takes place in the gym, the main doors will open at 4:30pm

Goals for our music shares:

to educate our audience while entertaining them
to give every student a chance to perform (share) their learning
to showcase the 'process' while sharing the final 'product'
to share the 'behind-the-scenes' work of being a musician
to allow students the chance to choose the things we share and help create the music share
to authentically show what a day in music class looks like! this includes:
- playing instruments
- singing
- music literacy
- moving to music
- composing music
- and more!

If your student is expressing nervousness or anxiety about music shares you can reassure them with phrases like:

"It's okay to feel nervous"

"The only people in the audience watching you will be YOUR family who loves you , everyone else will be watching the person they love"

"Music shares are a part of music class, but they don't have to be your favorite part"

"If you are feeling scared, you can take 3 deep breaths"

"You will do the same activities you do in the music room, so you will be an expert!"

"I will be so proud of you when the music share is over!"

"You will do a practice music share in the music room with Mrs. Oz, so you will know the whole plan before it's time!"

"I will be there waving and smiling at you so you know everything is okay!" OR "Mrs. Oz and your teacher will be there waving and smiling at you so you know everything is okay!"
