I have an app that uses Text To Speech, and also allows the user to call up their music player. [for now I'm trying to avoid coding my own player]I would like to lower the volume or pause the music being play in the background [not my app] while my TTP is talking.

I use a Nexus 6 on Lollipop. Sometimes I'll try to listen to music over Bluetooth while using Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation in my car. The volume on the music is reduced whenever Google Maps gives the next turn, which is irritating. I changed the settings in Google Maps to output using the device's speaker, but it still lowers the media volume over Bluetooth to give me turn information.

From what I've read elsewhere, this functionality is generally handled by the application playing the music/audio. So, I've been testing out various players, and found a couple that does what the question is requesting, MX Player and Poweramp.

The other one that does what the question is requesting is the music player app Poweramp, which lets you choose in its settings, under Audio->Audio Focus->Short Audio Focus Change, between no ducking (unchecked), and pausing (checked). Poweramp isn't free, though.

Another app, Rocket Player, is a music player that will let you choose between ducking and pausing, but will not allow you to disable it completely, which is what the question is looking for. (The setting is under Settings -> Sound -> Audio Focus -> Temp Focus Action)

For Samsung devices, I found a solution to this issue by using an app called SoundAssistant. It has a "dual app sound" setting, if you turn it on and choose an app for dual sound (in my case it is Amazon Music), Google Maps will not mute the music.

Hello, I have the following problem: whenever i am playing music on my computer, the volume control button on my phone is directly linked with my computer spotify volume so whenever i click less volume it just changes that of my pc spotify instead of the volume of my actual phone. How can i stop that?

In Spotify on the iPhone, go to Settings > Devices > Devices Lock Screen, and toggle this off. This will stop you from controlling music while Spotify isn't the active app, but does seem to fix the issue with the volume controls.

So far this also seems to be preventing the Spotify app from auto launching on my Apple Watch as well, but as with the iPhone, if you go into 'Now Playing' (making sure to select iPhone and not Apple Watch), it will still show the music controls, but ignore the volume control.

Honestly this should be the default setting... I didn't have to adjust any of my phone's internal settings (background app refresh, etc) and have finally gotten Spotify to work 'correctly', without hijacking my phones volume control, or blasting all my Google Homes if I bumped the control on my phone or watch

I closed the app completely, I also connected my Bluetooth earphones to my phone and the music went from my laptop to my phone automatically. Anyway, I restarted the phone and now it does work when I close the Spotify app on the phone, tried different times to see if it happened again and it didn't. Could have been a MIUI bug since it used to have a lot of issues with spotify and connectivity.

This is also happening to me. I have an iPhone XR running iOS 14.7.1 and a Windows computer with a Spotify app version of 1.1.65.643.g2d707698-a. Even after "killing" the app on my iPhone, my phone volume can still control my computer Spotify instance and vice versa. It's very irritating.

In addition, I tried restarting my phone, which fixed the problem briefly. Then some time later (maybe 10 minutes or so) my phone started to sync up volume with my computer again, without ever opening the Spotify app on my phone.

Hello even while my iphone spotify app is closed and the desktop spotify app is open, the volume on my phone changes. I then have to open the iphone spotify app then close it again for my phone to no longer be randomly affected.

Just to confirm, when changing the volume in the desktop app it also changes the volume of your phone? Is your phone appearing in the Connect list in the desktop app even when the app isn't open in your phone?

Apparently iOS 15 changed the way Background App Refresh works. In iOS 14 it was a simple "On/Off", but in iOS 15 it is set to "On while on WiFi" by default. After changing that back to "Off", my phone volume stopped controlling Connect devices while the app was closed.

This is still happening. Background app refresh is turned to off. It's extremely annoying that this is affecting all volume on my phone. Volume on my phone will still randomly jump even if the Spotify audio is only playing from the pc or mac. Why is my phone volume connected to Spotify volume at all?

Have you guys figured this out yet? Hoping you're working on it for the next update. Controlling Spotify volume should only happen if I'm in the app and not any other time. If I'm out of the app on my phone I expect my volume rocker on my phone to control ONLY my phone volume.

If that's the case, then this is expected behavior on iOS devices for now. This is based on how volume control works and that volume sync between Spotify apps on different devices is enabled to allow for remote control. In order to disconnect this control, the app needs to be closed completely.

When auto-lap triggers after 5k, the spotify is interrupted by a notification about the lap time. After this, spotify comes back but on a much lower volume. It is not possiblr to increase to the same (maximum) volume as before the notification.

Same issue for my Android phone, but the volume is fine if I connect the phone to a bluetooth device (then audio via the bluetooth device) or if I temporarily turn off bluetooth (then audio via the phone). So you can turn off phone bluetooth and try again. In any case a better solution is needed.

If you don't want to mess around with your Android device's settings, a simpler way to increase the volume is to adjust the device's position so that you can better hear it. It's similar to placing a phone's speaker closer to your ear to better hear the person on the other line.

5. If your volume limiter is off, tap the white slider next to "Off" to turn the limiter on. Once it is on, slide the circle underneath "Custom volume limit" all the way to the right.

Let's say I'm listening to text to speech audio from an Android app. I want to have some low volume instrumental music playing at the same time in another app. (Both apps allow simultaneous playback.)

The problem is that the music is too loud, and makes it difficult to hear what is being spoken by the text to speech. If I try to turn the volume of my current music player down, the whole Android system audio will be turned down, including the text to speech. Obviously, this defeats the purpose.

use discord....in miui 10 you can u listen to programs with deafalt music volume panel and discord music with ringtone volume panel. for that u need a mi phone and discord installed on u phone and in the discord u need to be in a channel and after creating a channel u need to add a music bot in the channel. u can play music from youtube

If I change the volume when the phone is locked or I am outside the Spotify or Sonos app, it just controls the phone ringtone volume.

So every time I have to adjust the volume, i need to unlock the phone, open one of the 2 apps, and control the volume. this does take up a lot of time because i need to adjust the volume very frequently.

I agree - but the really cool thing was that the volume buttons were controlling my SONOS only while it was playing.

And, even better: if my SONOS was playing (controlled by my phone), and I opened a youtube video on my phone, the volume buttons would control the youtube by default. When I would then close youtube and go to my homescreen, or even lock the phone, the volume buttons would go back to control my SONOS by default. It was just so smart.

It appears that Android now doesn't recognise the Sonos app as a media player and so the media volume buttons don't get activated on the Android home page. If I'm playing music through Bluetooth headphones through Spotify, the volume buttons work as expected for media (taking priority over other volume settings eg notifications or ringtone, per my settings choices), and if I switched to a YouTube video, the volume buttons then control the volume of YouTube as the "active media source". But for some reason, this doesn't then work when you're playing media through Sonos.

Even if I play from my Spotify App to my SONOS, I can change the Spotify Volume from the Home/Lock Screen by default (when I press volume buttons). ?

So it seems to be an Android issue as I expected.

I have the Sonos notification up and the extra one "stopping the service may interrupt playback notifications" which is super confusing and a poor UX. You can see in the screenshot that I'm trying to press the volume and it is not adjusting Sonos but instead my Android media volume.

An amplifier, like that found in your stereo, smartphone, or computer, supplies the electrical power to the headset. With passive headphones, the power of the external amplifier determines the maximum sound pressure level (SPL) or volume.

Apart from their location, volume limiters can also differ on a technical level. Our audio engineer AJ Wykes explains: There are different approaches to output limiting depending on the complexity and cost of the headphones.

Active headphones have a battery to power the electronics, typically to provide onboard EQ or active noise canceling (ANC); though these are rarely analog nowadays, as digital technology is superior and more cost-effective. Devices like this have active amplification stages that drive the transducers. Analog limiting circuits (automatic gain controls) can impose a maximum output voltage to the transducers, calibrated to correspond to a maximum SPL (output volume level).

Not all level limiting is made equal. Resistors passively limit the volume by restricting the amount of power converted to sound. Hence, headphones that rely on this method can surpass safe listening levels when the amplifier, such as your stereo system, is powerful enough. Digital limiters are a little more foolproof, but implementations can vary. ff782bc1db
