The last day before move in, I played my very first gig at the restaurant I work at. This experience was hands down the most liberating thing i've ever done. I never thought i'd have the confidence to stand up in front of my entire town and perform, without hiding behind a character and costume. It went perfectly and was super successful! That being said, my family and friends threw me this amazing party to celebrate. I ended up screaming and laughing the entire night. The next morning and for the next three days, I could barely even speak. I had never experience a vocal loss like that in my life, so I expected it to get better.
Entering my first semester it was clear to my vocal professor, Dr.MacLeod, and I that there was something seriously wrong. My soprano range was and is still entirely gone, and no amount of rest was fully solving the problem. However, I ended up getting scoped by the incredible vocal pathologists at the Duke voice clinic. It was then when they confirmed to me that I had vocal nodules.
Below is the video that was taken of my vocal chords. Here you can see two parralell nodules on either size of my vocal chords, as well as the same thing a bit up higher.
