Our Mission
We are a non-profit, student-run organization based in Brookline, MA, USA, that provides free music lessons and peer mentorship to aspiring musicians of a wide range of skill levels. We work to connect K-8 students around the world with high school and college student mentors. Our team of dedicated mentors is committed to helping young musicians reach their goals, volunteering their time, skills and experience to help students gain lifelong skills and confidence through music. We organize in person and virtual recitals for students to gain performance experience and further connect with their mentors. We hope that all our students are inspired by each other to continue music beyond school through our program.
How it Started
Music Connect was founded in 2021 by Vera Lin, in the midst of the pandemic, as a way to connect students despite the physical barriers, through music. We continue to operate with this core mission, that music can be a driver of community, connection, and growth for students of all ages. Driven by a passion towards increasing accessibility to the performing arts, we hope our program can serve as a gateway for self expression and musical growth for students at all points in their musical journeys. We believe that engaging with the performing arts can drive confidence, perseverance, and leadership skills, for both our students and our mentors. Thus, we organize our in-person and virtual concert opportunities with the goal that students may gain both the skills and a community that they may carry with them into all avenues of life.
