Micah began his music studies early in his youth with his father, who taught him the fundamentals of music theory and harmony. In High School, Micah utilized his background in music when he joined the Walnut Hills Wind Ensemble as a freshman, playing the bassoon. Micah would then go on to perform with the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, where he was taught by the CSO Principal Bassoonist Christopher Sales, and join the Nouveau program for minority musicians. As he began to take an interest in music composition, Micah decided to make three compositions for the Interlochen Center of the Arts Summer camp. It was after this experience where he got the opportunity to study with CCM Professor Ellen Harrison and create a composition for Artswave Isolation Commissions: The Past We Step Into.
In College, Micah has continued his compositions as well as interests in game design by becoming a Music Composition and Game Development double major in the Honors College of Miami University. Micah has composed works for various instrumentations involving woodwinds, percussion, strings, piano, and more performed in live concerts.
Anastasia is a senior double majoring in choral music education and music composition at Miami University. She has quite enjoyed her time here, and is sad she only has one semester left before moving back home to be with family. Anastasia describes herself as mostly a composer, but sometimes a singer. She has been singing for most of her life, and began composing in high school. After graduation in December, she plans on teaching choir at a middle or high school, but, of course, will keep composing on the side ast time allows.
Mitsi Dixon was born in 2002 in Morrow County, Ohio. Her music started largely based on her jazz piano compositions, but has since morphed into a blend between new music, jazz, and sounds she finds interesting. She is attending Miami University with a degree in Music Composition.
Ezra D. H. Simmons, born in Oxford, Ohio, is a senior Music Composition and Flute Performance double major at Miami University. Due to his bifurcated approach to music, his time at Miami has been very eclectic. As a composer, Ezra was the winner of the inaugural Miami University Symphony Orchestra (MUSO) Composition Competition in 2023 with a large-scale work commissioned by the Orchestra (under Dr. Ricardo Averbach). He is also the recipient of the OFMC Collegiate Composers Contest (2024), a statewide award, and has composed for ensembles such as Yarn-Wire, Unheard-of, and the Miami University Wind Ensemble (under Dr. Daniel Farr). As a performer, he has flourished as a flutist in both the Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as a co-principal, was a founding member of RepQ, an audition-only wind quintet, and has had the opportunity to conduct the MUSO in Shostakovich’s Festive Overture. Ezra, as of Fall 2025, will pursue his Master’s of Music at Bowling Green State University with a focus in music composition, and will continue to lead his composer-performer identity into his professional career.
