The terms "Pop Rock" is used to describe a commercially successful type of music that uses the musical structures of pop music and the typical musical instruments of rock music. It is a genre of rock which originated in the USA and in the UK in the mid 1960s. It derives from the fusion of pop music, rock & roll, beat and rock music.
The term “pop rock” is often used to indicate a softer, more commercial, ephemeral and accessible genre of rock. Pop rock songs are more melodic, well structured, with a few instrumental parts.
The typical instruments of pop rock are: vocals, the electric guitar, the drums, the keyboard, the bass guitar and the synthesizer.
One of the first pop rock bands were the Beatles, in the UK. Other pop rock bands and singers were Elton John, Peter Frampton, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Dire Straits, The Police, R.E.M., Genesis and many others.
