This is a Live-Steam Model Train, and there is another on the 3rd floor.
To the left is the exhibit about High Speed Trains (next image).
The button below (best viewed landscape) is a comparison of the world's current high-speed trains, but the site also includes a Maglev train (the L0 Series) which does not use wheels. Note that a train's maximum speed is far below its normal operational speed. This is primarily due to safe stopping distances and track maintenance costs which increase with speed. Most high-speed trains normal maximum operational speed is about 180-220 mph (290-350 km/h).
