2020 Curriculum Assessment

The mission of the Department of Music is to provide a collaborative environment for creative investigation and innovation, in which students develop professional and technical skills with a global vision for the significance of music in their lives, their communities, and the world.

The vision of the Department of Music is to be the program of choice for students who wish to enhance their musical skills and deepen their understanding of music in society through a course of study designed to cultivate such life skills as self-reliance, confidence, curiosity, and adaptability.

 The Department of Music at High Point University celebrates the creation and enjoyment of music by all people, as an expression of their humanity and culture. We seek knowledge, opportunities, and purposeful connections that will enable us to lead lives of significance in a global musical environment. Students in the department will join a community that encourages creativity, curiosity, innovation, collaboration, and achievement. They will participate in a culture of diversity and inclusion through a broad range of musical experiences and be empowered with such life skills as self-reliance, confidence, curiosity, and adaptability. Through our interdisciplinary approach, students will build professional skills necessary to shape 21st-century careers, creating and exploring music in new ways in order to build community, promote well-being, and enhance culture.
