What is an unconference?

Often, the best experiences at a conference happen in the spontaneous conversations that happen with peers between sessions.

An "unconference" is a different kind of conference: in the spirit of that spontaneity, it is one where participants suggest topics of interest, the sessions are chosen and facilitated by peers!

Anyone who wants to propose and lead a session can do so—an unconference is about you and other participants.

You'll walk away with new connections, new conversations and new takes on ideas related to teaching and learning.

What's the schedule?

This unconference is a 3-hour event, scheduled for Thursday May 2nd, held during Memorial's 2019 Teaching and Learning Conference.


12:00-1:00 pm: Unconference orientation and session selection

  • Sessions proposed and selected.

The session proposal and selection process will be a facilitated process.

Location: IIC-2001, Bruneau Centre (2nd floor)

1:00-1:30 pm: Lunch & travel time

1:30-2:45 pm: Breakout sessions

  • 1:30-2:05 pm: Round 1
  • 5 minute transition
  • 2:10-2:45 pm: Round 2

Session A room location: AA-1043

Session B room location: AA-1045

Session C room location: AA-1046

Session D room location: AA-1049

2:45-3:00 pm: Transition & travel time

3:00-3:15pm: Large-group reflections and take-aways

We will reconvene for a fifteen-minute session to hear about the session discussions, and explore next steps, if any.
