☆   Growing up with his adoptive father, Benzo, Ekko looked up to Vi and Powder, the former of whom taught him fighting moves. Working at the shop lead Ekko to learn more than he should have, while showing he had a gift in tinkering and mechanics, and most of the secrets he learned he shared with Vi and the others. It was one such tip he gave the others the day everything changed. Ekko witnessed Benzo's murder at the hands of a Shimmer-affected Deckard under Silco's orders. He saw Silco and his men take Vander away and later tearfully told Vi where to find them — Silco's Shimmer factory. Shortly after, multiple explosions at the factory resulted in multiple deaths and Vi's disappearance, leading him to assume that she had also perished. Years would pass with him thinking he had lost everyone and finding his own means to survive in Zaun while sabotaging Silco's efforts. 

☆   As years passed, Ekko became increasingly aware of the environmental corruption that was slowly affecting the Firelight tree and this lead him to reconnecting with Heimerdinger. Together the two of them investiageted, only to be drawn in an anomaly at the bottom of the hexgates. The anomaly sent Ekko to an alternate reality, with his mind inhabiting the version of himself from that timeline, but he was desperate to get back home which he accomplished, learning in the process that he could rewind time using the Z-Drive they invented. However while Ekko returned home, Heimerdinger did not, leaving Ekko to join the Battle at the Hexgates alone.
