SARs Covid Virus Mechanics

The SARs Covid Virus has brought over 6 million deaths worldwide. The biological aspects of the virus have been heavily researched. However, the physical and mechanical engineering aspect of the virus has not been investigated as much. The coronavirus is made up of nucleic acid, which accounts for the genetic material, the capsid, which is made of icosahedral structure, and the spike protein. Different properties of the virus are studied by looking at the unique structure of the icosahedral to see how much normal force is required to break the capsid as well as see the effects of shear stress on the planes of the capsomeres. The spike protein is also analyzed to investigate the vibrational characteristics and its correlation with the different rates of infectivity and lethality.

Over the years, there have been many small and big epidemics. Unfortunately, many scientists predict that more epidemics will occur in the future. The research aims to provide insight into the mechanical properties of SARs Covid Virus and further extend the knowledge in finding new methods of monitoring emerging or new mutations of viruses and developing new methods of treatment.
