Kim grew up near Boston but moved to the Philadelphia area to attend Bryn Mawr College for her undergraduate education. At Bryn Mawr, Kim worked in the laboratory of Frank and Sally Mallory, who were amazing mentors and motivated Kim to continue her studies in graduate school. She joined the lab of Eric Schelter at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied the reactivity and electronic structures of uranium complexes. After receiving her PhD in 2017, Kim joined the Chemistry faculty at Chestnut Hill College (2017-2021) and at West Chester University (2021-2024). Kim's wife was born and raised in Honolulu and wanted to return so Kim joined the Chemistry faculty at Hawaii Pacific University in 2024 as an Assistant Professor.
