Plasma Analysis & Design Lab

• Welcome to Min Uk Lee's Plasma Laboratory at the Division of Semiconductor Engineering at Myongji University.

This laboratory is dedicated to investigating plasma science and techniques, with a dual focus on (1) developing plasma processes and equipment for industries and (2) advancing modeling techniques to enhance our understanding of plasma physics.

We welcome inquiries from anyone interested, including students and fellow scholars. Feel free to reach out for advice and discussion on study, research, and career.

• What is plasma?

Plasma (fourth state of matter) is a fluid consisting of charged particles (electrons, ions) along with various states of neutral particles. Plasma technology is essential in semiconductor processes and equipment since it allows precise control of electrons and ions to achieve desired material properties and structures. Another promising application is generating electrical power through nuclear fusion reactions in high-temperature plasmas, which is suggested as an ultimate energy source on earth. Notably, plasma constitutes most of the ordinary matter in the universe, such as in stars and the intergalactic medium. Thus understanding plasma is crucial for gaining insights into our world.

본 연구실은 플라즈마 과학기술을 탐구하여 (1) 산업계에서 사용되는 플라즈마 공정ㆍ장비 개발과 (2) 플라즈마 해석을 위한 모델링 기술개발을 수행합니다.

• 플라즈마란?

플라즈마는 제4의 물질상태로, 전하를 가진 입자(전자, 이온)와 중성 입자로 구성된 유체입니다. 전자와 이온을 정밀하게 조정하여 원하는 재료의 성질과 구조를 구현할 수 있기 때문에, 플라즈마 기술은 반도체 공정과 장비에 필수적입니다. 궁극의 미래 에너지원으로 꼽히는 열핵융합 발전 또한 플라즈마의 제어를 통해 이루어집니다. 무엇보다, 우리가 눈으로 보는 대부분의 우주 물질(예: 태양, 밤하늘의 별)은 플라즈마로 이루어져 있습니다. 그러므로 플라즈마 연구는 우리가 사는 세계를 더 잘 이해하도록 도와줍니다.
