ISLAMIC TERMS

J

1. Jahannam (جهنم) - Hell: The place of punishment for the wicked in the afterlife.

2. Jannah (جنة) - Paradise: The eternal abode of the righteous and faithful in the afterlife.

3. Jahiliyyah (جاهلية) - Age of Ignorance: The period of ignorance before the advent of Islam.

4. Jihad (جهاد) - Struggle: Effort or striving in the way of Allah, can be spiritual, social, or military.

5. Jibril (جبريل) - Gabriel: The archangel who delivered revelations to the prophets, including Muhammad.

6. Jummah (جمعة) - Friday: The holy day of the week for Muslims, including the congregational prayer.

7. Juz (جزء) - Part: One of thirty equal divisions of the Quran.

8. Janaza (جنازة) - Funeral: The Islamic funeral prayer and rites.

9. Jinn (جن) - Supernatural beings: Invisible beings created from smokeless fire, existing alongside humans.

10. Jizyah (جزية) - Poll tax: A tax levied on non-Muslims living under Islamic rule.

11. Jalsa (جلسة) - Sitting: A sitting position during the prayer.

12. Jumada (جمادى) - Dry: Two months in the Islamic calendar, Jumada al-Awwal and Jumada al-Thani.

13. Ja'far (جعفر) - Ja'far: The name of several important Islamic figures, including Ja'far ibn Abi Talib.

14. Jamaat (جماعة) - Group: A congregation or assembly of Muslims, often for prayer.

15. Janab (جناب) - Excellency: A title of respect.
