Mt. Zion, Illinois

74th Abraham Lincoln Council Lincoln Pilgrimage

  • Sign-ups were due by April 16 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 28 - bus leaves McGaughey Elementary School at 10:00 a.m.
  • Pack 43 pays the registration fee for all Scouts and adult leaders, which includes a special event program and dated patch
  • All families are encouraged to attend this event - the largest single day Scouting event in the US!
  • Families pay $5/person or $25/family to help defray the cost of renting the bus
  • Bus Transportation is FREE this year!
    • Space is limited on the bus - sign up fast!
  • Pack 43 participates in the Ceremony at Lincoln's Tomb at Oak Ridge National Cemetery and then in the parade from Lincoln's Tomb to the Illinois Old State Capital (about 2 miles)
  • We stop at McDonald's for lunch after the parade - returning to Decatur by ~3:00 p.m.

May Pack Meeting - Annual Pack 43 Fishing Derby!

  • Saturday, May 11 at Fletcher Park, Mt Zion
    • 7:30 a.m. - Check-in begins
    • 7:55 a.m. - Rules & Procedures
    • 8:00 a.m. - Fishing Derby begins
    • 9:00 a.m. - Fishing Derby ends
    • By 9:30 a.m. - Awards & Prizes
  • Special FISH BEAD for Scout's belt totem
  • Special Pack trophies awarded for Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish, Most Fish and Sportsmanship
  • Trophies awarded in each den for the Largest Fish
  • Grand Champion will be awarded a special prize!
  • Each Registered Scout will receive a door prize and also entered into prize pool.
  • Pack 43 will provide a fishing goodie bag that will have the following:
    • Bobbers
    • Fishing Hooks
    • Split Weights
    • 10 Worms
    • Door Prize
    • Special Fish Bead for Scout’s Belt Totum
  • Each participant is allowed to fish with one pole in the water at a time and may bring own tackle and bait to use.

Please note that the IDNR is not granting us a Group Fishing License this year. All participants under the age of 16 are not required to have a fishing license for our event. If any siblings or parents over the age of 16 plan to fish, they must have a valid fishing license.

2019 Summer Camps Are Coming!!

  • Sign-ups are due no later than Friday, May 17 by 5:00 PM for Resident Summer Camps and June 1st by 5:00 PM for Railsplitter Day Camp
  • Pack 43 does get a $5 discount if we sign up by April 10, so PLEASE sign up early!
  • Pack 43 pays for each Scout to attend 1 camp - if a Scout attends Day Camp and a Resident Camp (CSSC or WW), Pack 43 pays for the more expensive Camp.

  • Scouts who will be in 2nd or 3rd grade in 2019-2020 should attend CUB SCOUT SUMMER CAMP
  • Scouts who will be in 4th or 5th grade in 2019-2020 should attend WEBELOS WOODS
  • The sign-up deadline for Council Resident Camps is May 17th by 5:00 PM.
    • For Webelos Woods attendees ONLY, you can view the Adventure list by clicking HERE. You will need to have your scout choose 5 sessions of which they will attend 3. These fill up quickly, so we ask that they select more than 3 in the event some of them are full. You will be prompted to select 5 of these sessions before you are able to submit your registration form.

  • While all Cub Scouts can attend Railsplitter Day Camp, please be aware the program is targeted to the younger Scouts (Tigers and Wolves).
  • The sign-up deadline for Railsplitter Day Camp is June 1st by 5:00 PM.

Summer Camp Frequently Asked Questions:

  • DEADLINES TO SIGN UP FOR CAMP TO HAVE PACK 43 PAY THE CAMP FEE FOR THE SCOUT: (after this date, Pack 43 will not pay camp fees)
    • Cub Scout Summer Camp or Webelos Woods - DEADLINE IS MAY 17th by 5:00 PM!!
      • Pack 43 does get a $5 discount if we sign up by April 10, so PLEASE sign up early!
    • Railsplitter Day Camp - DEADLINE IS JUNE 1st by 5:00 PM!!
    • Pack 43 pays for each Scout to attend one summer camp

Resident Camps:

  • Webelos Woods is July 25-28
  • Cub Scout Summer Camp is June 7-9
    • WW and CSSC are OVERNIGHT tent camping!!
    • WW suggested packing list can be found HERE.

    • WW and CSSC are at LTC's Rhodes France Scout Reservation near Pana, IL - link to map
    • Families bring their own tents, sleeping pads, cots, sleeping bags, etc.
    • Council Camps are one of the few opportunities Scouts have yearly to earn their BB Gun & Archery belt loops
    • Scout fee includes meals during camp, program materials, camp t-shirt, patch and camp mug
    • A parent or designated responsible adult must attend RESIDENT CAMP with their Scout (unless other arrangements are made with pack leadership)
    • Adult registration fees and optional adult t-shirt fees are paid by the family
    • ***Adult fees must be paid to Pack 43 by the May 17 deadline for the Scout to be paid & registered***
    • DO NOT register directly with the Greater St. Louis Area Council or their website for any camps!!
    • All campers (including adults) should take their HEALTH FORM with them to camp (DO NOT turn in to Pack 43)

Railsplitter Day Camp:

  • Day camp is June 12-14
    • Mark your calendars to attend Early Check-in on June 11th Christ United Methodist Church, 5-7 pm All attendees should bring completed medical forms (parts A/B only)
    • Day camp takes place during daylight hours - no overnight camping
    • Camp Hours - 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
    • Scouts bring a sack lunch each day
    • NEW THIS YEAR - Pack 43 will provide bus transportation to/from camp for our scouts and any adult helpers (departing from and returning to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church).
    • Camp Location is Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park near Harristown, IL - link to map
    • Day camp is one of the few opportunities Scouts have yearly to earn their BB Gun & Archery belt loops
