March Pack Meeting Details have been announced and sign-ups for Lincoln Pilgrimage are now open! Summer camp information is now posted and registrations are OPEN!

March Pack Meeting - Hawking Presentation

  • Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Mount Zion Grade School Gymnasium
    • 725 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL
  • Local falconer Martin Hadley will put on a great show with his hawk and teach all of us about birds of prey education and the sport of falconry! This is a very interesting and entertaining experience that you will rarely see anywhere else!
  • IMPORTANT: Please ensure that ABSOLUTELY NO ITEMS with any type of real or artificial animal fur are brought or worn to this meeting. If you have an items that fall in this category, please leave it at home or in your car. This is for the safety of the audience as well as the hawk!

73rd Abraham Lincoln Council Lincoln Pilgrimage

  • Sign-ups AND payments are due by April 17 at the April Pack meeting!
  • Sunday, April 29 - bus leaves McGaughey Elementary School at 10:00 a.m.
  • Sign up at THIS LINK
  • Pack 43 pays the registration fee for all Scouts and adult leaders, which includes a special event program and dated patch
  • All families are encouraged to attend this event - the largest single day Scouting event in the US!
  • Families pay $5/person or $25/family to help defray the cost of renting the bus
    • Space is limited on the bus - sign up fast!
  • Pack 43 participates in the Ceremony at Lincoln's Tomb at Oak Ridge National Cemetery and then in the parade from Lincoln's Tomb to the Illinois Old State Capital (about 2 miles)
  • We stop at McDonald's for lunch after the parade - returning to Decatur by ~3:00 p.m.

April Parents, Volunteers & Committee Meeting

  • Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Coz's Pizza, 1405 Village Parkway, Mount Zion, IL
  • All Pack 43 parents are invited to attend and help us plan our program and upcoming events!
  • All dens should be represented by a den leader, assistant den leader or parent(s).

April Pack Meeting - Year End Pack Cookout!

  • Tuesday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Spitler Woods State Park Horseshoe Pavilion
  • This has become a year-end favorite - do not miss it!!
  • As always we, we will have outdoor games and activities
  • For this year's Scouting for Food project, each family should bring 6+ non-perishable food items - these will be donated to the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Food Bank (Please do not donate items past the dates indicated on packaging - those items will be thrown away!)
  • Each den should meet and discuss how they will distribute responsibilities for food items across the families in their dens - each den will bring enough hot dogs, burgers, buns, chips, drinks & cookies/brownies for their den - divide food items up within each den so everyone can contribute to their den.
  • We will cook food on site at Spitler Park using a campfire and we will have charcoal for the grills as well
  • Pack 43 will provide table service, including plates, plastic utensils, napkins, cups, ice & condiments. The Pack will also have a large cooler of water available.
  • Families should bring:
    • Food items for their den - discussed and agreed upon by each den
    • Drinks for their den
    • Outdoor chairs
    • Outdoor games
    • Scouting for Food items (see above)
    • Wiener forks to share at the camp fire
  • Scouts and family members should wear their Activity Uniforms (Class B t-shirts).
  • Weather cancellation - families can check www.Pack43.info and the Facebook page by 4:00 p.m. on April 17 if there is a threat of weather - we will post a go/no go on the web site.

  • While all Cub Scouts can attend Railsplitter Day Camp, please be aware the program is targeted to the younger Scouts (Tigers and Wolves).
  • The sign-up deadline for Railsplitter Day Camp is June 1st.

Summer Camp Frequently Asked Questions:

  • DEADLINES TO SIGN UP FOR CAMP TO HAVE PACK 43 PAY THE CAMP FEE FOR THE SCOUT: (after this date, Pack 43 will not pay camp fees)
    • Cub Scout Summer Camp or Webelos Woods - DEADLINE IS MAY 18th!!
    • Railsplitter Day Camp - DEADLINE IS JUNE 1st!!
    • Pack 43 pays for each Scout to attend one summer camp

Resident Camps:

  • Webelos Woods is July 26-29
  • Cub Scout Summer Camp is July 6-8
    • WW and CSSC are OVERNIGHT tent camping!!
    • WW and CSSC are at LTC's Rhodes France Scout Reservation near Pana, IL - link to map
    • Families bring their own tents, sleeping pads, cots, sleeping bags, etc.
    • Council Camps are one of the few opportunities Scouts have yearly to earn their BB Gun & Archery belt loops
    • Scout fee includes meals during camp, program materials, camp t-shirt, patch and camp mug
    • A parent or designated responsible adult must attend RESIDENT CAMP with their Scout (unless other arrangements are made with pack leadership)
    • Adult registration fees and optional adult t-shirt fees are paid by the family
    • ***Adult fees must be paid to Pack 43 by the May 19 deadline for the Scout to be paid & registered***
    • DO NOT register directly with the Lincoln Trails Council or website for any camps!!
    • All campers (including adults) should take their HEALTH FORM with them to camp (DO NOT turn in to Pack 43)

Railsplitter Day Camp:

  • Day camp is June 13-15
    • Day camp takes place during daylight hours - no overnight camping
    • Camp Hours - 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
    • Scouts bring a sack lunch each day
    • Camp Location is Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park near Harristown, IL - link to map
    • Day camp is one of the few opportunities Scouts have yearly to earn their BB Gun & Archery belt loops
    • Camp fees include all activities, a t-shirt, special patch and camp mug.
    • All campers (including adults) should take their HEALTH FORM with them to camp (DO NOT turn in to Pack 43)

Pack 43 is entirely comprised of parent volunteers. While we strive to always have the best activities possible we cannot succeed without the parents who selflessly give their time.
