The 2016-17 school year will be my 9th (and 1/2) year teaching, and my 7th year in the district. I started in the district at Franklin teaching preschool and then special education for K-1. I then moved to Kindergarten at Anson, and that is where I have been for the last 4 years.
I became more involved in MEA in 2012 as the Secretary, and this year I am president-elect! I am also a member at large on MIUU/ISEA. In my building, I am on the PBIS team and BLT (Building Leadership Team). After this year, I will be a graduate of Iowa Valley Leadership in Marshalltown, too!!

I have taught in Marshalltown for 18 years - all at Woodbury! I spent 12 years as a bilingual kindergarten teacher and am now in my sixth year as teacher librarian. I love our school, our staff and our students and their families. I feel like I have grown up with them. I just renewed my National Board certification in the area of an Early Childhood Generalist.
I became more active in MEA during the past 10 years. I am serving my third term as MEA president. I am on the Executive Committee of ISEA, the Mid Iowa Uniserve executive board, and have served as the state coach for the ISEA/NEA Teacher Leadership Initiative program. I have represented you and our fellow members at the NEAl Representative Assembly for the past 4 years. I have been active in political organizing and plan to keep working to do what is best for our students and our public education system.

I have taught Business courses at the high school since the fall of 2001. I did teach American History for 2 years early on. I received my Masters degree in Secondary Education in the summer of 2008. I have served MEA as the treasurer since 2010ish! I have also been part of our Contract Negotiations team since 2006ish. Time seems to fly when you are a teacher.
In the Fall of 2016, I was named as the Ethics Integration Specialist for the Daniels Fund out of Colorado for the state of Iowa. In that role, I will be attending training sessions during the 2016-2017 school year to enable me to share information with teachers statewide starting the Summer of 2017.

I've been a building rep since 2015 for Hoglan Elementary, and an At-Large Executive Board member since 2017. I've been the music teacher at both Anson and Hoglan Elementary since 2013. When I'm not teaching, I'm busy directing the local Sweet Adelines Chorus, directing three ensembles at Central Christian Church, or giving piano and voice lessons to 15 students. I love to hang out with my cats Niko, Walter, and Wateka.

The 2016-2017 school year is my 26 year in education and my 11th year in the district. I started my career as a Title I teacher in Wisconsin, taught 2nd grade and 3rd grade in Texas, and was the principal of Marshalltown Area Catholic School (now called St. Francis) for 8 years. Then, I followed my heart back to the classroom and joined the staff at MCSD in 2006 when I started at Woodbury. I piloted the CLM approach and have enjoyed being a leader with it's implementation ever since! My parents were both teachers for the MCSD and I am proud to continue their quest for student achievement and think I have one of the best (and hardest) jobs in the world!
