Students
Students who work with me usually enjoy learning via explorations and have an interest in physics, applied mathematics, and/or computer simulations of complex phenomena. Many have a strong foundation in computer science, probability and statistics, differential equations, and linear algebra. My philosophy in working with students is the same as the one I employ in teaching, particularly the elective ones. I usually do not give a well-posed problem with an immediate solution. We try to identify areas of common interests and start posing some questions as we broaden our understanding. This process leads to projects defined and driven by the students. My role, at best, becomes a sounding board who, once in a while, also can ask relevant questions.
