My current research explorations focus on understanding some aspects of problems that fall under the broad domain of Complex Systems. The models and tools I apply in my studies are embedded in statistical physics, complex networks, and nonlinear dynamics. Some recent research directions have been modeling complex social phenomena and analyzing extreme events in physiological and financial time series. Another area of interest has been solitary and shock wave propagation in highly nonlinear granular materials. My PhD work involved studying quantum transport, generalized master equation theory, and modeling nano-scale friction. The common thread has been an interest in understanding dynamical systems with complex interactions at different scales.
