If you could travel back in time to a one room schoolhouse where children of different ages and developmental levels all came together for the purposing of learning, not just academics, but also life skills and a biblical education, you would see the heart of Mt. Haven Microschool.
This model allows for learning of not only subject matter, but also of morals, compassion, community, group collaboration and more.
We strive to inspire a deep love for learning in addition to a strong sense and practice of biblical characteristics.
"Saturation learning" is how we approach our curriculum at Mt. Haven, no matter what book or curriculum we choose.
Minds of all ages need to process what they learn and time seems to be the key in this matter. We make ample room for questions and curiosity which allows students to wrestle with ideas taught until they're comfortable with them.
We don't push to "finish the book", because we use a finely curated variety of curriculum including The Good and Beautiful, homemade ideas and songs, and a plethora of hands-on opportunities to anchor concepts into our little students' minds.
Keeping things small and intimate is at the very core of what makes us different. We believe strongly in a stable, cozy learning environment for our students.
Group size can largely affect a child's ability to focus and feel safe. When distractions are at a low and safety is at a high, the brain can focus on what is important.
Mt. Haven is committed to maintaining group sizes that foster learning. We function in pods of 10 learners (max) at a time, depending on cohesiveness and learning styles/needs for that group.
