Mt. Haven Fellowship
Mt. Haven Fellowship
God laid it on my heart many years ago to start a co-op that blesses families who are homeschooling their kids. I have been to many groups in NWA and for various reasons, they weren’t a fit for my family at the time. In many co-ops I have seen a push for large numbers, large amounts of money, and large time commitments. I personally believe that the larger the group, the poorer the quality. When the group becomes so big, more rules and restrictions must be put into place, and the intimacy begins to fade. I needed something small, close to home, affordable/free, and without major attendance restrictions. I had a strong desire for fellowship with like-minded mommas who have a more laid back approach to what a co-op should look like and so Mt. Haven Fellowship was created.
We are pro-Bible and very anti-government involvement (2 huge reasons I homeschool) co-op. I like to tell everyone that upfront because it's a waste of your time if this is not going to be a fit for your family. If you have questions as to what that means, please ask.
We will never resemble the school system. They are two worlds that do not have the same goals. Sometimes we will have a class or speaker and many times we will just have a social get together where our children can enjoy wholesome relationships.
A social environment that is healthy is what we try to create for our kids and mommas. We don’t allow for drop-offs so that parents can be aware and involved with what their children are doing and experiencing. This also allows us to build family relationships.
We expect parents to be engaged in what the kids are doing. We also expect parents to watch and monitor their own child's behavior. Everyone has their own parenting style, so we leave personal correction up to the parents.
We also do not allow sharing of screens/phones and strongly discourage phone usage inside the building when co-op has begun.
During our time spent together, our co-op focuses mostly on building relationships. Many times, the mommas and children learn alongside one another and other times, we have a meal together and enjoy free play.
Potlucks are a common event, happening close to holidays and celebrations like Christmas, Valentines, and Summer Kick-offs.
Parents are encouraged to teach a skill or a class if they desire to do so. Grandparents have also come to teach on subjects that have been almost forgotten--sewing, baking, gardening, etc.
Classes on life skills are a huge hit with our group. Some of our favorites have been Changing Tires, Tin-Smithing, and Beekeeping.
We also have book reports, science fairs, entrepreneur fairs, dioramas, etc etc.
AND We try to schedule field trips and Mom’s Night Out regularly!
*Mt. Haven Fellowship does NOT celebrate Halloween or anything associated with that event, nor do we attend/welcome anything to do with scary concepts, evil practices, or unbiblical lifestyles.
We meet every Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm, at a church in Pea Ridge as their schedule allows. Mt. Haven Fellowship has been so blessed by this church and everything they have done to make our co-op successful!
When we have field trips or changes to the schedule, announcements will be made on the GroupMe app. You can be added to that group once you have had a meeting/conversation with Trisha Tyler, Kristy Tipton, Kiley Doiron or Ashley Meyers.
I want this co-op to bless families. My family in particular has had a difficult time staying connected to other groups due to financial burden, time commitment, travel time, etc. I ask that each and every family please pray about whether or not this is a good fit for you. God's plan for everyone is so unique, and I never want to try to convince anyone that the particular idea He has laid on my heart is absolutely for everyone. In fact, I'm certain the opposite of that is true. And please feel free to ask any questions you might have before joining! I have attempted to share all the details that seem pertinent, but I'm sure I haven't covered everything. In my opinion, thoroughly digging into an organization before committing is simply wise.
Before new members join our co-op, they should have a conversation with myself (Trisha Tyler), Kristy Tipton, Kiley Doiron or Ashley Meyers to make sure it is a good fit for both parties, in addition to reading this document and the Church Building Rules--a list of rules that our co-op agrees to abide by in order for the church to continue hosting our group.
