Math 108: Data Science Explorations is a course intentionally designed for widespread use across Oregon colleges, universities, and high schools (ideally as dual credit), aiming to provide entry-level exposure to the principles and practices of data science.  

Design priorities:

• Minimize technical and cost barriers to allow widespread use 

• Center real-world applications of data that deeply engage students

• Excite STEM interest and grow positive math/computer science identities in more students, especially those who experience marginalization in K-16 math education

Students work through the data science cycle using real world data sets to create final projects in a variety of industry formats, including a policy memo, R Quarto document, slide show, and more.
