Our group depends on parent involvement, and many contribute to MTFOdL. We serve as a bridge between parents and the administration, meeting regularly with both. While we are not a formal support group, parents do find support and information by networking with other parents who attend meetings.
MTFOdL is a parent organization led by parent volunteers established to:
Promote inclusion and acceptance of students with learning or physical challenges in school and extracurricular activities
Serve as a resource to parents & guardians
Collaborate with district administrators to positively affect policies, practices, and programs for students with IEP’s and 504’s.
We meet with the administration regularly during the school year, in accordance with the New Jersey SEPAG manual that was published in 2018.
Please note: We are not an advocacy group, as we do not attend individual IEP meetings or represent individual parents at the Administrator meetings. MTFOdL also is not a fundraising organization.
New Jersey requires that all districts have a Special Education Parent Advisory Group to provide a forum for parents and community members to collaborate with the district to improve special education. The NJ regulations (6A:14-1.2(h)) state that:
Each Board of Education shall ensure that a special education parent advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities.
MTFOdL follows the New Jersey SEPAG manual that was published in 2018. You can find more information here
