Scouts took the Jetty Island ferry today to explore the island and find the four geocaches located on it. We hiked to the north end, through brush, over logs, and next to tidepools. After geocaching, scouts enjoyed time together running through the mud and playing on the beach. A new adventure for our pack and one we'll have to do again!
Scouts from our Webelos den hiked into Fire Mountain Scout Camp and spent two nights doing all the summer camp things: Archery, BB guns, fire starting, cooking, orienteering, swimming, field games - it was a blast. Similar experiences were had by our younger scouts during their day camp program the following week. Summer is a great time for scouting!
Who doesn't love camping on a baseball field? Our scouts enjoyed the AquaSox annual game + overnight campout on the outfield at Funko Field.
Pack 121 was back representing scouting at Everett's annual Independence Day Parade!
Pack scouts and adults ran stations at Monroe Elementary and Jefferson Elementary Carnivals this evening, helping students and families explore how to make a rainwater regatta boat. Scouts and families alike had great fun in the rain making it a true raingutter event!
Scouts and their families gathered to play field games and share a potluck with delicious dishes (and Costco pizza for the kids, of course). For the flag ceremony, our two AOL scouts paraded the flags one last time with the pack before crossing over to Scouts BSA. All dens distributed a multitude of awards to close out the year and each scout crossed over to their next rank. For dessert, scout adults made Dutch oven desserts of chocolate, fruit, and even one "Kaibo stew." All went home with full bellies and happy memories of another great year of scouting!
Our May pack meeting is always a fun one - this year we did a Raingutter Regatta. It's kind of like a Pinewood Derby, but on water! Scouts and their siblings made mini sailboats out of foam, wood, or even milk cartons to see how fast they could blow theirs from one end of the gutter canal to the other. Scouts designed, tested, and redesigned over and over again until they were happy with their creations. Definitely an event we'll do again!
Beautiful weather shone upon us again this year for our annual pack campout. Scouts did everything possible - touring the fort, cooking, setting up and tearing down tents, field games, a service project, and, of course, a spirited campfire program.
At this month's pack meeting, scouts learned all about camping from our guest presenters, from Troop 122 and Order of the Arrow. Scouts went through four stations, learning about safe food storage and cleaning at the campsite, how to pack their bags for a campout and gear needed, how to set up a two-pole tent, as well as the basics of campsite cooking. Thank you Troop 122 and Order of the Arrow for this awesome presentation for our scouts!
Our scouts and their families trekked up to Stevens Pass and tromped through the forest on a beautiful snowy Saturday morning. Scouts did some off-trail practice in a foot or so of powder, seeing how helpful snowshoes are compared to snow boots alone. Along with taking in the scenery, scouts pommeled Den Leader Richard with snowballs in a spirited bout, and enjoyed hot cocoa on their return to the trailhead. A great outing!
At our February pack meeting, we celebrate the founding of Cub Scouts with Blue and Gold. Scouts ate blue and gold frosted cupcakes while Cubmaster Nick went over the highlights of this annual event. For the activity portion of the meeting, scouts showed off the items they thought they would need for a day hike in the mountains, then compared their items to pack adults and an experienced mountaineer.
Our Webelos 1 Den 10 went on an adventure this weekend to Camp Sheppard for a two-night overnight. Though they found little snow, they throughly enjoyed working on Webelos adventure pins, cooking, archery, BB guns, field games, morning hikes, campfire programs, mess hall "flava bin" as they say, and so much more.
Our annual Pinewood Derby races were faster than ever this year on our new-ish aluminum track. Scouts raced their four-wheeled creations vying to come home with a pedestal for their car. Assistant Cubmaster Jesse announced the races and worked the crowd like a full-time sportscaster while Cubmaster Nick and pack leadership ran the track. Scouts made the traditional Twinkie cars (as if they needed more energy!)
Who doesn't love a visiting the Silvertips in January? Our scouts enjoyed the Tips annual scout night and cheering on our hometown team.
Our Webelos 1 (Den 10) sent in these photos of their recent cookout, having planned, purchased, and now made an entire meal by fire, including a dutch-oven cake. Scouts also practiced their fire-starting skills under adult supervision.
Scouts had a blast watching, racing, and learning all about remote controlled cars at Die Hard RC's December race meetup. Our scouts watched the main track races, but then were able to race against their peers in a three-race competition on a smaller practice track. Next, we toured the pit area to learn all about the different classes of RC cars, how they are built and repaired, and why this sport is so much fun. A big thank you to Die Hard RC for hosting us!
We went all out this year for Mill Creek's Santa Parade, making four scouting-related "floats" and a new programmable LED pack sign. The scouts had fun making mini theme floats - from a lighted tree with scouting-related presents to a working campfire display with a "boiling" kettle, a tent decked out in holiday cheer, ready with a sleeping bag and teddy bear, and finally, a fully decorated Pack 121 scout snowman, also sporting holiday wear and lights. So much fun, and we already have plans to go bigger next year!
This month's pack meeting had many awards, including a handful of scouts earning their Bobcat rank. Scouts also practiced tying basic knots and learned a new game from our Webelo 1 Den: Steal the Bacon!
To honor our Veterans, we walked in the Mill Creek's annual Veteran's Day parade. To all our Veterans, THANK YOU for your service!
Today our scouts toured the USS Gridley, located here at Naval Station Everett. What a ship! We'd like to tell you more, but it's, well, classified. Thank you to the incredible sailors on the Gridley as well as all our Veterans serving our country, past and present.
Tonight our scouts employed engineering (and some storymaking) skills in buildling halloween structures out of candy. Older scouts were paired with younger scouts to support each other and share ideas. A lot of fun was had by all, and perhaps a few candies were enjoyed by scouts and adults alike. We also welcomed a number of new scouts to our pack. It's still not too have your child join a den - contact us at mtbakerpack121@gmail.com for more information.
Our Webelos 1 Den has been quite busy this month, with the scouts now taking on running the meetings themselves (with adult support). They just completed their first responder pin (see picture of them finding their way through a maze, blindfolded, to practice escaping from their house in case of a fire). They also attended WebelosRee overnight at Fire Mountain Scout Camp, meeting troops from around the council and learning skills such as fire making, hiking and backpacking, how to properly raise and lower flags, not to mention a bit of stargazing, too!
A lot of crazy fun was had tonight as scouts worked through stations building stomp rockets, paper airplanes, and popping film canister mini-rockets. Our pack adults launched model rockets in the distance, which scouts were all to eager to follow and catch. To top it all off, root beer floats to close out the evening. If you're interested in joining our pack, now is a great time to sign up as dens are forming. Email us at mtbakerpack121@gmail.com for more information!
A few of our dad leaders got together today to test fire rockets for next week's Rockets and Root Beer pack "open house." As you can see from the photos, our scouts had quite the time test launching these! Come out next Wednesday to meet our pack and see what Cub Scouting has to offer!
Our scouts (and siblings) had a LOT of fun tonight getting pumped about popcorn. We are on track to reach our $10,000 popcorn sales goal! Scouts played popcorn games and sampled the popcorn we sell to be able to give customers personal opinions on which popcorn they think is best.
Our yearly fundraiser is off to a great start! Pack 121 Scouts will be selling popcorn in front of the Silver Lake Ace Hardware from 10-6 tomorrow, Saturday the 10th. Support a great cause and get some delicious popcorn, too!
Have you ever camped out on a baseball field? Our pack camps out every year at the AquaSox Scout Night, including watching a movie on the big screen. Want to see what other awesome events scouting has to offer for your child? Check us out - we're registering scouts now for our 2022-2023 year, serving boys and girls grades K-5 in the Jefferson and Monroe Elementary areas.
