Leadership and Technology
(Spring 2019)
EDCI 325 was taught by Professor Lucie deLaBruere, and focused on the development of personal leadership within a technology-centered environment. Class content was focused on digital age learning, leading an organization through change, creating innovative plans and professional development. Coursework was structured to provide an opportunity for class members to immediately apply concepts to our professional work.
Throughout the weeks, we were asked to integrate new class content into a variety of assignments. In the beginning of the semester, we created a Destination Postcard and vision video (both shown below) to practice using technology tools to demonstrate a professional vision. Building on these skills, we were then asked to create a detailed technology plan for a mock-change in our organization, and create a leadership blog. One of the most thought provoking projects was to create a vision (google website) of a school of the future. My small team chose to envision "Vermont School for Empowered Learners", with core values of personalization, passion, equity and empowerment. The process of creating a public-facing vision, with consistent language and driving from the values a team had chosen, was a fantastic exercise applicable to most professional opportunities.
For me, one of the biggest benefits of this class was the emphasis on growing and maintaining a personal learning network. Lucie created opportunities for team members to interact with each other, challenge each other's understanding of class content, and collaborate on group projects. The final, culminating project was to create a leadership portfolio, and align our experiences to chosen educator or leadership standards. I have chosen to keep my leadership portfolio linked within my graduate portfolio, as a tab along the upper main menu.
