Machine Translation for Academic Writing (MT4AW)

Workshop description

If you are not a native speaker of English and have to write papers in English, this workshop is for you! The MT4AW Workshop explores the feasibility of drafting content in a first language that is not English (e.g. Japanese) and then machine translating and post-editing the academic text in English.

We propose a hands-on workshop where you will learn about this process and gain hands-on experience, carrying out a short self-post-editing experiment.

Benefits to participants

1. Post-editing (PE) experience. This workshop will give you a real PE hands-on experience, guided by researchers who have researched post-editing to a significant degree. In doing so, you will also learn about issues experienced during the PE task, as well as challenges still to be solved.
2. Experience on an innovative use of MT, i.e. as a writing aid. This experience will allow you to identify strengths and limitations of this potential use of MT.
3. New research directions and collaborations. By participating in our workshop and interacting with other participants you may discover new research directions and establish new collaborations.
