MSUBA Oakland County Chapter Green & White Gala: The Remix

Our Why

It’s our goal to raise $50,000 by December 1, 2022.  MSUBA-OC takes pride in investing in our local community. We are excited about having the opportunity to put on programs throughout the year that will engage current MSU students with Black alumni. We have started this by creating a Welcome to Sparta Freshman Reception which is held in July. In the spring, we plan on creating an alumni mentoring program to provide students with a mentor within Black Alumni in their field of interest to provide mentoring and shadowing opportunities as they matriculate through Michigan State University. Lastly, as a thank you to our alumni and supporters we desire to wrap up the current calendar year in holiday cheer and host an annual gala providing food, beverages, entertainment, and keepsakes that will also serve as an avenue to raise money for scholarships to metro Detroit Spartans.

Ms. Glenda Olivache', Chair

I am delighted to welcome you to the Green & White Scholarship Gala site. Your attendance and participation and support will be a testament that you share the vision of continuing the mission established by our beloved organization over five years ago. That is, to inspire and encourage philanthropy in young people and to raise funds for scholarships. Let us all be inspired to follow the lead of these courageous and benevolent young people, leaders among their peers, as they continue to choose a life in which philanthropy plays a large part.

Once again, the beneficiary will be future Michigan State University Spartans. In December 2017, we held our first Green & White Gala and was able to raise $1,000 toward the establishment of our scholarship endowment. Now, we are in our fifth year and through generous donations we have raised over $10,000.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to so many people whose hard work and unrelentless dedication to the success of this Gala does not go unnoticed. I would especially like to thank this year’s honorees, the ongoing efforts of our supportive and enthusiastic Board of Directors whose commitment and wisdom throughout the year make the Gala a huge success and our talented, creative President, Dr. Tyloaha Parker, without whose incredible devotion and extraordinary passion this Gala could not take place. Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank all the sponsors and guests that will be in attendance. May you continue to guide and inspire others to become future philanthropic leaders, while continuing to build history as part of this MSUBA Oakland County Chapter tradition.

Dr. Tyloaha Parker, President

I am pleased to welcome you to our website for the Green & White Gala: The Road to 50K!  The Gala will highlight the contributions to our community that the young ladies and gentlemen have already made and will inspire them to continue to make philanthropy an important part of their lives. We can all be inspired by them and by our past participants who have gone on to be integral in the charitable life in the metro Detroit area.

Our beneficiaries from your generous contributions will continue to be rising metro Detroit Spartans who have made the decision to continue their educational journeys at Michigan State University.  With over 500 newly admitted Spartans that come from the metro Detroit area annually it has been one of our goals to support them in their pursuit.

This Gala would not be a success without the hard work and dedication of many people. I want to thank particularly this year’s Gala committee for their involvement and enthusiasm, the Board of Directors who work throughout the year to make this event a success, and our Chair, Ms. Glenda Olivache', without whose hard work, insight and dedication the Gala could not take place.

A special thank you must also go to the sponsors and guests that support this Gala. It takes all of you not just to make the Gala a success but to guide and inspire the young Spartans to become the future philanthropic leaders of the world.
