How to get a FREE Public Library Card & Access Maine’s Digital Lending Library
All Maine state residents can get a Maine State Library card online for free by going to the Maine State Library website here: https://www.maine.gov/msl/services/libcard.htm
Click on circle 1 - I will use the library card only to access online databases.
Fill out contact information
Click on submit
Circulation services will contact you the next business day and provide you with a database barcode access number. Your barcode access number is valid for 5 years.

All Cumberland county residents can get a Portland Public Library card for free, you can request a free temporary e-card by emailing lending@portlib.org .
With the PPL e-card, you will be able to access PPL’s e-books, audiobooks, and databases including Tumblebooks stories for children while your local library is closed.
Using cloudLibrary & Your Library Card to download e-books & audiobooks
Once you have your barcode access number, you can access Maine’s digital library, CloudLibrary here: https://www.maineinfonet.org/download/downloadlibrary/
It contains hundreds of e-books and audiobooks that can be checked out and read on your tablet, smartphone or computer.
Getting Started
Download the free cloudLibrary app that is appropriate for your device directly from the Apple App Store, Google Play or install the cloudLibrary App for Windows PC or Mac OS X. You can also find links to each of the above mentioned apps here: https://www.yourcloudlibrary.com/
Once you have downloaded the app, open it and log into your library. Use the dropdown menu to select your state, your library (Augusta: Maine State Library), and enter your library database barcode access number. Click agree to terms and log in.
Now you are ready to browse, borrow and read ebooks and audiobooks. You may check out up to 3 ebooks/audiobooks at a time. You may have up to 3 ebooks/audiobooks on hold. The lending period is 21 days. The book will automatically be returned at the end of that time period, however you can return it early if you want.
