Hello! My name is Ms. Jericha Richards, and I am excited to welcome you to 7th Grade Social Studies at McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School of Visual & Performing Arts.

I believe every student has the potential to succeed when they are encouraged, challenged, and supported. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel valued, develop confidence, and discover a genuine appreciation for history and the world around them.

This school year, we will explore Louisiana history, geography, civics, economics, and the people and events that have shaped our state and nation. I look forward to partnering with students and families to make this a successful and memorable year.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe education is about much more than memorizing facts. My goal is to create meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to think critically, ask questions, and make connections between the past and the world they live in today.

Every student deserves a classroom where they feel safe, respected, and empowered to grow academically and personally. I strive to build positive relationships with my students while maintaining high expectations and providing the support they need to be successful.

Through engaging lessons, collaboration, and hands-on learning, I hope to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Why I Love Social Studies

History is more than dates and events—it is the story of people, ideas, and communities that have shaped the world we live in today.

Studying social studies helps students become informed citizens, thoughtful leaders, and compassionate problem-solvers. My goal is to help students see how the past influences the present and inspires the future.
