Welcome to English 11 and Honors English 11!
The English 11 curriculum includes the following units of study:
Each unit of study builds on the previous one to ensure that students have acquired the prerequisite skills to move onto the next level of learning. The curriculum units are carefully designed to ensure skill practice in reading, writing, researching and listening and speaking and to prepare students for the next grade level. The English 11 Curriculum also supports the development of skills recommended by the 21st Century Learning Standards and CTE Career Ready Practices.
Honors English 11 is an accelerated course in which students are expected to read and write above grade level, maintain an average grade of 85% or better, and complete independent projects.

Grading Policy
Students and parents are responsible for regularly checking grades by accessing the PowerSchool Student & Parent Portal at http://www.cttech.org/psportal/. If you need your username and/or password, please contact our Guidance Department. Grades will be calculated as follows:
● 35% Response to Literature: This pertains to reading and responding to fiction and literature.
● 35% Reading for Information: This pertains to reading and responding to non-fiction texts.
● 20% Tests, Quizzes, and Projects: This includes District Summative Assessments.

Work Completion Policy
● Homework is due at the start of class the school day after it is assigned. It will not be accepted late.
● If a student is present in school but chooses not to come to class for any reason, that student is still responsible for obtaining the day's assignments and submitting any work due on that day.
● There is no opportunity for students who choose not to complete class assignments to receive extended time, make-up work, or extra credit.
● Extra help is available upon request after school or during Academic Access.
Make-Up Work Policy
● Per the Student Handbook, for each day absent from school, students are given two days to make up assignments. This includes shop days, so students are strongly encouraged not to miss the last day of the academic cycle.
● Students are responsible for taking any pre-announced quizzes and tests, and are still held to deadlines for previously assigned work and projects, regardless of absences.
● It is the student's responsibility to obtain missed assignments from the teacher—whether in person or via email—or from the teacher's website.
Behavioral Expectations
The behavioral standards set forth by the CTHSS Student Handbook and E.C. Goodwin Student Handbook Addendum are enforced at all times. In addition, the following guidelines are non-negotiable in this class. Failure to maintain these expectations will result in disciplinary action.
● First offense: Warning
● Second offense: Detention
● Additional offenses: Referral to administration.
6. Backpacks and bags are placed on the floor, never on the desk.
7. Students may not sleep or put their heads down on the desk during class.
