In partnership with the Mississippi Department of Education, the Region 7 Comprehensive Center is convening a Community of Practice (CoP) during 2023-24 to better serve the needs of Students with Disabilities (SwD). This CoP is working with educational leaders at both the school and district level on the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices across Mississippi. We are specifically focused on the implementation of three High-Leverage Practices (HLPs) in special education that are proven to foster student engagement and learning. These research-based practices are fundamental to effective teaching, and thus they are critical levers to achieving improved student outcomes.
This CoP is designed to help participants support the use of HLPs through the principles of implementation science. These principles include the purposeful planning, communication, and feedback necessary for successful implementation. Participants are actively engaged in the key actions required to advance the use of the HLPs in classrooms. By combining the HLPs with the principles of implementation science, this CoP can help achieve improved learning outcomes for SwD.
