I was looking through the different chapter in the grade 6 Go Math! textbook to search for group-worthy tasks.
One group-worthy task that I came across was a "Think Smarter!" question. In Go Math!, "Think Smarter" questions usually have multiple steps and provide questions to prompt students' thinking.
I found this question to be a good potential problem as it has multiple treats and required students to find the unit rate of each treat.
Instead of dog treats, I decided to use Christmas cookie ingredients. This is because the holidays were coming up, and I just finished a read aloud on a picture book called "The Gift of the Christmas Cookie" by Dandi Daley Mackall, which had a christmas cookie recipe. This would have made the group task more relevant to the students as well.
Using Google Slides, I created a task cards (6 different ingredients). As an additional way to connect the different task, I also included a section where students have to add up the total costs of all the ingredients to see how much the whole batch of cookies would cost.
When implementing the group task, I had the below PowerPoint slide on the board so students can see the instructions and have a mutual understanding of expectations, vocabulary words, and ways to communicate. Students are familiar with this slide and expectations.
