Project: Setel TVC
Role: Executive Producer
This project marked my first role as an executive producer. While it provided a new perspective on client management and production logistics, I realized my preference lies in handling the creative aspects rather than administrative tasks. The role highlighted the challenges of managing diverse client expectations and reinforced my passion for creative direction.
Week 4-7
Project: MNasir Cipta 2
Role: Director and Director of Photography (DOP) and Editor
I had the opportunity to direct and handle cinematography for a project featuring legendary artist M. Nasir. This collaboration was an inspiring experience that deepened my understanding of working with renowned talents. The project also offered numerous learning opportunities, enriching my skills as both a director and a DOP
Week 8-11
Project: J10D Documentary
Role: Cam Operator A
For this project, I worked as the primary camera operator for 4 days on a documentary about Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT). It was my first time visiting Johor for a professional assignment. The experience was enriching, providing valuable insights into camera operation and storytelling in a documentary setting.
Week 12-13
Project: Toyota Commerciall (
Role: Director & Editor
I directed a commercial for the Toyota Yaris and Corolla, focusing on their sporty features. This project allowed me to experiment with dynamic angles and innovative shots to highlight the vehicles’ performance and design. The success of the video was a testament to the collaborative effort of the entire team, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in delivering impactful content.
Week 14-16
Project: Petronas Docu: 50 Yearsss
Role: Director
This project marked my debut as a documentary director. It was a significant milestone in my career, allowing me to lead the creative direction for Petronas' 50th-anniversary documentary. The shoot lasted 6 days and posed various challenges, but through teamwork and perseverance, the production concluded successfully. This experience honed my leadership and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment.
Conclusion
The past 16 weeks have been transformative, offering a wide range of experiences across different facets of filmmaking. These projects have not only enhanced my technical and creative skills but also provided a clearer understanding of my career aspirations in the industry. Additionally, my internship at Tomato Studio has been an invaluable journey. It has allowed me to immerse myself in a professional setting where I could apply my skills, collaborate with talented individuals, and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the production process.
Through this internship, I discovered my strengths and preferences in creative roles, particularly in directing and cinematography. The hands-on experiences I gained—working on high-profile projects and with industry professionals—have shaped my perspective on storytelling and the importance of collaboration. I also learned to navigate challenges, adapt to different responsibilities, and deliver results that align with both creative visions and client expectations.
This internship not only enriched my technical expertise but also nurtured my passion for filmmaking. It provided me with a platform to grow as a professional, develop leadership skills, and understand the significance of teamwork in achieving shared goals. As I move forward in my career, I am confident that the lessons and experiences from Tomato Studio will serve as a strong foundation for my future endeavors.
