Mines that require Part 46 are those engaged in shell dredging or which mine Sand, Gravel, Surface Stone, Surface Clay, Colloidal Phosphate, or Surface Limestone.
Limited to the specific non-metal mines listed.

Part 48B mines are Surface Mines and Surface areas of Underground Mines. The requirements of 48A, working underground at Underground Mines are not covered here. Contact your MSHA office for assistance in finding the appropriate classroom course.

It allows you to work on the surface at Underground mines.
All training must be done or monitored by an MSHA Approved Trainer.
Part 48 Training plans must be approved by MSHA, but contractors do not need their own if they train under a mine or educational institute plan.
