The Mentorship Program committee is currently accepting applications from district educators. The mentor position is a paid position with funding from the National Education Association grant.

Mentor Application Process

A rigorous selection process is utilized to ensure highly qualified and accomplished teachers are selected to mentor early career educators.  To apply for this position, a completed mentor package must be submitted.  This package includes: MSEA mentor application, resume, and two references.  Only completed mentor application packages will be reviewed.  

Mentor Selection Process

A blind-read selection process will be completed by the Mentorship Committee.  Mentor candidates will be notified of selection or non-selection by Dr. Annette Durbin on or before August 1, 2023. 

Mentor Requirements

The MSEA mentor application is for MSEA members (teachers, nurses, librarians, counselors, SSS, etc) who wish to apply to be a mentor.  Minimum requirements are as follows:  

*Have 5 years experience in your educational field;

*Have completed (or is willing to complete) and passed the Mentor Communication Skills class;

*Submit mentor course completion documentation, if/when you have completed a course;

*Current member of MSEA or retired MSEA educator who held a membership in MSEA at time of retirement;

*Retired MSEA members must be a current member of NEA-Alaska Retired Teachers;

*Must be able to work collaboratively with others and foster good rapport;

*Must demonstrate solid, ethical, and professional conduct (https://education.alaska.gov/ptpc);

*Hold a current Alaska educational certificate (https://education.alaska.gov/teachercertification/certification);

*Submit a current resume to complete this application;

This position is funded by an NEA National grant.

Participation as an MSEA mentor is a paid position; however, this position is NOT associated with the MSEA/MSBSD negotiated contract and is not subject to the Alaska TRS.
