The Exam

It is not as scary as it seems. You will be well prepared by the time it is test time. This exam is application and explanation heavy, meaning you really have to know how to use the vocab and/or explain the possible causes/effects. Memorizing the vocab will not help here. *Whispers* This is where your Quizlet and YouTube come into play.

There are 2 timed sections for the exam:

60 Multiple Choice Questions (60 Min) worth 50%

3 Free Response Questions aka FRQs ( 75 min) worth 50%

It will be over before you know it.

The mulitple choice questions will include both individual and set-based questions
Approximately 30 to 40% of the multiple-choice questions will reference stimulus material, including maps, tablets, charts, graphs, images, infographics, and/or landscapes, roughly evenly divided between quantitative and qualitative sources

Each free response question (FRQ) presents students with an authentic geographic situation or scenario and assesses students' ability to describe, explain, and apply geographic concepts, processes, or models, as they analyze geographic patterns, relationships, and outcomes in applied contexts.
FRQ 1 does not include any stimuli; FRQ 2 includes one stimulus (data, images or map); and FRQ 3 includes two stimuli (data, images, or maps)
At least two of the three free-response questions assess students' ability to analyze across geographic scales to explain spatial relationships

Task verbs used in Free-Response Questions

The following task verbs are commonly used in the free-response questions:

Compare: Provide a description or explanation of similarities and/or differences

Define: Provide a specific meaning for a word or concept

Describe: Provide the relevant characteristics of a specific topic

Explain: Provide information about how or why a relationship, process, pattern, position, or outcome occurs, using evidence and/or reasoning

-Explain the degree: Breakdown the amount, level, or extent to which something happens or Is present

-Explain a limitation: Breakdown the possible restrictions of a term, situation, or event

Identify: Indicate or provide information about a specified topic, without elaboration or explanation.
