Gov Unit 3: The Legislative Branch
Enduring Understandings:
- Our legislative branch is called Congress and is responsible for writing and passing laws
- A bill becomes a law in 5 steps: introduction, passing committee, first floor vote, second floor vote, and the president’s signature
- Political parties are organizations that nominate candidates to hold public office and are foundational to the structure of Congress
- Interest groups lobby government by gathering and sharing information with bureaucratic agencies and congresspeople
- Gerrymandering is redrawing congressional districts to ensure that a candidate of a certain party wins the seat in the House of Representatives
