The students will read every month as part of their weekly homework to earn classroom economy money and also a free, personal pan pizza at the end of each month!

If your child needs a new form of any kind please let me know! :) I am excited to see how much they read and how their reading improves and have them develop and continue their love for reading! After all, we are reading to learn in 4th grade instead of what they did in K, 1st, and 2nd, which was learning to read!!!

Why Reading Matters

Language

Daily reading to your children puts them almost 1 year ahead of those not being read to.

Literacy Skills

Children without Basic reading ability when they enter school are 3-4 times more likely to drop out later.

Brain Development

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends parents read aloud with children to strengthen language skills, literacy-development, and parent-child relationships.

WHEN DOES THE BOOK IT! PROGRAM RUN?

The program runs October 1 through March 31 each year.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

The BOOK IT! program is offered to students in K-6 grades (ages 5-12) at the school they primarily attend.

HOW DOES BOOK IT! WORK IN THE CLASSROOM?

Each year from October to March, teachers set monthly reading goals for the students in their class. Number of minutes, number of pages or number of books – they all work! Also, parents can read with kids not yet reading independently. When a student reaches their reading goal, the teacher awards the student a Reading Award Certificate for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza® from Pizza Hut®.
